just so I understand - you had to dremel/modify your hand guard mounts a hair to fit inside the 1/2" hole?

My hand guard mounts that go in the bar ends were 5/8" diameter so I put them in a metal lathe (I'm a machinist) and turned them down to 1/2". A dremel would of taken fooooreeeeeveeer . I took very little material out of the handlebars, just enough to make the hole round with a 1/2" drill bit. rj

It keeps raining in East Idaho. :wtf: Nevertheless, I finally managed to ride some single track on Sunday with my CRF250X.

I also got to ride my RX3 on Memorial Day. :)

http://i442.photobucket.com/albums/q...psyw9ciuae.jpg

The RX3 needs a shift lever with a folding tip. I ordered such a lever for the NC250 engine from Taobao. However, while awaiting its arrival, I discovered the shift lever from my Zongshen Sierra 200 also fits the RX3 shift shaft.

Searching Taobao is just like riding; the more you do it, the better you get. ;) Since the gear shifter is part of the engine, you can search Taobao for 'NC250 T6,' and find a lot engine parts. :)

WTF is right! Been trying to sneak in rides between the downpours/t-storms for weeks now in northern Utah. Tough weather to have brand new bike! I guess I'll use the opportunity to wrench some improvements on the bike.

Hi All, by the way. First post on the forum. Got my RX3 a few weeks ago.

Same gear shifter on my moto, test is ok ofroad condittion, many time droped my moto that arm side non damage, but CRF250L gear shifter/arm/ damage report users.

Spring impact absorber , probably aluminium, light material, 2 years than using non problem i advised it.

Thanks for the good report regarding the shift lever. :)

Any one know how to defeat the locks on the standard luggage so you don't have to use the keys every time opening and closing and just leave them unlocked? Many times I just go across town to get groceries and it's a pain to have to lock and unlock lids for short distances. rj

NoVa Rider 05-27-2015 05:56 PM

Defeating locks

This is so easy even I can do it. Just remove the screws that secure the latch plate, (on the lid, not the box body). Remove the plate and store it for future use. I've done that on my muffler side box for exactly the reason you noted. Quick access to little odds and ends like a red rag I put around the gas tank to keep small drops of gas off my tank when filling, an inspection mirror for checking oil level, and a cheap cable lock to secure my jacket and helmet on the bike during errands.

Without the lock, there is a slim chance the latches might pop open, but they seem pretty secure to me. Just be sure the box is fully closed and the latches are snapped down.

rjmorel 05-27-2015 07:45 PM

NoVa Rider, I hadn't thought of that. I guess I was wondering if there was a way to be able to get the key out in the unlocked position but still have the lock available to lock it when needed. I know I don't ask for much, rj

NoVa Rider 05-27-2015 08:04 PM

You're right RJ. It would be much more convenient if you could toggle the lock itself.

I installed a SpeedoDRD from 12 O'Clock Labs to correct the highly 'optimistic' reading from the speedometer of my Zongshen RX3. :) I like this speedometer corrector very much, and I am pleased I purchased it. If you like, you can read my installation thread at the following link. ;)

Are you asking about the Garage Pro Travel Trunk?

The stock one. I asked to be taken out all the extras (including the rear plate), but now I want to put one box.

Thanks. I just installed the top box. And I get some crissement. Is there anything I can do? Or is it like this in all the bikes?

Adjuster 05-30-2015 02:25 PM

LOL I had to look it up and translate. Crissement = Screeching

If you installed the rubber grommets and washers, you should not hear any noise from the trunk. ;)

JTHSPACE 05-31-2015 04:15 AM

In the past, I have had "rumbling" from the box as it is not a tight fit onto the rubber buffers on the holding rack. My solution was to stick hard foam strips under the box so that you have to firmly "force" the box onto the locking mechanism. I started with two pieces either side of the box 5mm thick, tried thicker, but it would not compress enough. The 5mm (quarter inch approx) rubber foam worked.

I stuck it on the box and not the rack mount so that it wasn't visible when riding with the box off.

The foam I used was the hard to compress type. It was black high density, not the type of foam from a bath sponge or disk scrubber.

Hard to describe, but I hope you get the idea.

Jeff

Thanks for your input, Jeff. That is an excellent solution for the Garage Pro/J.C. Whitney travel trunks which attach to the luggage rack with a locking mechanism. However, I think Miqueas is having problems with the stock trunk of the RX3, which is bolted to the luggage rack of the RX3, and is not designed to be easily removed. ;) This trunk is supplied with three rubber grommets, three extruded washers, and three bolts which secure it to the luggage rack. If the supplied equipment is used, the truck is firmly attached, and shouldn't make any noise. :)

I finally measured how much fuel it took to cover the fuel pump. Starting with a completely dry empty tank filled to cover pump while on center stand. It took just over 1 quart or little less than 1.5 liters to cover pump.

Now the extra fluid recommended by the factory can be for increased thermal capacity of more fluid, or complete immersion while fluid is sloshing around.

Either way there will be a lot of useable fuel after the gauge shows empty especially on smooth roads.

SpudRider 06-01-2015 11:13 AM

Thanks for measuring, and sharing that information, Jim. I have always thought the Zongshen engineers were being very cautious and overly conservative with the full gallon specification. ;)

My old XT225 sold over the past weekend, so I pulled the trigger on the RX-3 this afternoon.

They were out of my preferred color (white) but really talked up the blue (Orange is too KTM for me anyway. . .). They expect it'll ship out on Friday.

I had them throw in the 19" front wheel and center stand too.

Can't wait. . .

Cheers,

Dan K.

Welcome and congrats on the new RX3 Dan. You'll enjoy the Cyclone as it is a great little bike. Be sure and check oil, coolant levels before riding. My coolant showed the normal 1/2 in the overflow tank but was way down in the radiator. Rode it that way for 300 miles before taking radiator cap off and checking. Checked it several times as it took a while to get coolant over into the second radiator and back around to fill it up to the cap neck. rj

Weldangrind 06-02-2015 12:16 AM

Congrats Dan! I hope it serves you well.

SpudRider 06-02-2015 01:48 AM

Congratulations on acquiring your new, blue RX3, Dan. If you have time, please do post photos of your bike after it arrives. :) Is the bike being delivered in the crate, or assembled?

Tight Valves? maybe....?

How many miles do you have on it?

rjmorel 06-02-2015 01:08 PM

make sure it has plenty of gas in tank. Don't ask :) Turn up the idle a little bit. 1800/1900 RPM, . rj

I'm paying for assembly. They tell me I should be able to unstrap and ride it right off the pallet.

Will post pics after it arrives. Looks like I'll have to update my sig, line too.

Cheers,

Local RX3 Owners Threads?

Are there currently any forums/threads to help RX3 owners in specific US localities identify other local owners -- if they want to be identified? I belong to a forum for a different bike which has a "local" threads subsection. Not that it gets used a lot. But now that I am tooling around on my new fast orange RX3, I'd be interested if there are any other riders in the mid-Atlantic/Washington DC area who might be interested in meeting up/riding/exchanging help with maintenance etc.

I am not well versed in how these forums work.

I am unaware of any threads/forums to help RX3 owners in different localities to meet. However, I encourage both of you to start threads on that topic here, in the RX3 forum at China Riders. :)

If this cap (?) is open the break liquid must go out just like that? I have been checking, then noticed some liquid there out without open it previously, I tried to open it and it was wet, I open it just like in the photo. Didn't remove it completely.

I have concerns about this, if this is the break liquid, and it just go out if someone opens the cap, my breaks won't work, right? Such an important thing, and so easy to hack?
