Thanks for daring to experiment, and posting the update. :)

I suspected the hole would lower air pressure, resulting in more condensation of the gasoline fumes. I think the stock system is well designed, and working properly. :)

I'm considering the installation of the RX3 device on my Hondoids. I might see similar results.

Hondoid dribble inducer.

That will be an interesting experiment, Weld. What size engine(s)? Since the juice extractor is for 250 cc I don't think it would work on something much larger but would probably function fine on a smaller crankcase.

Hmmm,,,, processes blow-by and separates liquid from fumes allowing controlled containment of waste liquid,,, germ of an idea for augmenting Depends on folks who need them.

That's an experiment I would like follow. Here is a link to the 'contaminant separator' at Taobao. ;)

Spud, please save me from going back over the contaminant separator; does the short tube connect the vent on the motor, and the long tube to the air cleaner?

Yes, you are correct. The short tube connects to the crankcase vent, and the long tube connects to the air box. :)

Since I no longer have an airbox, I figure I can use a generic automotive fuel filter; something that is easily found at Walmart. What do you guys think?

SpudRider 10-12-2015 03:33 PM

I suggest you use a Uni Filter UP-103, which has a nipple for attaching the hose. I suggest you mount the filter high, for several reasons. This filter can spew oil, so keeping it high reduces that prospect. Also, you want the filter high so it doesn't suck water into the crankcase during stream crossings, et cetera. ;)

Thanks, Spud. I see I can get one for around $12.00. Are they washable?

SpudRider 10-12-2015 03:49 PM

You're welcome. :) I don't know if they are washable, but they get pretty gunky after a few thousand miles. :wtf: After they are well soiled, all of the XR650L owners throw them away, and install a new one. ;)

Both RX3's would collect fuel in this tube. Mine dripped at the plug but my wife bike would fill to the top and it was used to start the camp fire every evening. I believe it is normal and seems to have slowed now that we have more miles on them.

I should have said the filters get gunky when the XR650L owners remove the oil separator. ;) Also, the 4-inch piston in the XR650L engine generates a lot of pressure/vacuum by itself. It will be interesting to see how the RX3 'contaminant separator' works with one of your smaller engines. :)

Yes, I'm sure it is normal. Reading this entire thread is interesting, since we have learned a lot regarding this 'contaminant separator' since the thread began. ;) I'm betting the fluid contained in the down tube has decreased as the piston rings begin to seat better. A better seal between the piston rings and the cylinder will reduce the blow-by gasses. :)

I rode mine about 300 miles yesterday and filled the tube half-way. A friend also rode his with me and nothing in the tube. I diffinately ride faster and more aggressively especially on hills because I'm quite a lot heavier than he is.

Weldangrind 10-13-2015 11:08 AM

The tube in your friend's bike might not be sealing as well at the plug. If it doesn't seal, fuel will simply drip out as quickly as it is collected.
