One thing I had to do was add a spacer under each acorn nut that attaches the front pipe to the exhaust port in order to get them nice and tight.
It a quality system at an excellent price. |
Thanks for the heads up Jim. I probably will do a video of my exhaust install, I hate waiting for deliveries though and won't get it until mid-September. Wife says I'm impatient, I don't where she gets that idea from:

Mine took 10 days to arrive from the purchase date.

Received and installed the center kick stand today. (Thanks for the link herbie!)
I'm at 1100 miles now and really enjoy this bike! With the new exhaust, I'm easily able to cruise at 75 now and have gone as fast as 87. I've tried with and without the baffle and the top speed is the same and I like the sound with and without the baffle. Of course my wife likes it more with the baffle so it's staying in - happy wife, happy life. I also ordered a different baffle from eBay and tried it as well. It installs at the front of the muffler and sounds about the same as the stock baffle at the end of the muffler. I did open up the holes just a bit on the stock baffle which gave it about 1.5% more throaty sound. haha.... I am currently running a 17 tooth front sprocket and the stock rear sprocket and can hit 75 in 4th. Only other mods I've done are new front and rear turn signals, a phone mount and a bluetooth helmet speaker/mic setup. Since I've owned the bike, I've put roughly 50 miles on my gas guzzling car and don't miss it a bit. I always look forward to riding now and usually go for a ride after dinner when my wife and her mom go for a walk. Really glad that I bought this bike! |
I really like the baffle in sound of the exhaust, Thanks for sharing the info on the KPT exhaust Jim, I'm very happy with it.
I have a 17-tooth sprocket as well and it just runs out of steam leaving 5th with very little and 6th kind of useless really. The 16 tooth seems to work the best, BUT the thing is the 15 works good too it just runs at a higher rpm and if you encounter strong wind or hills in top gear the 15 tooth almost seems to work better. Thats why I flop back and forth on the 15 and 16 tooth sprockets, they both have advantages, it just depends on how much interstate riding I'll be doing. I've about worn out my 2 little bolts taking them in and putting them back :lmao: Just my opinions of course |
I ran the 16 tooth as well for a few weeks before installing the 17 tooth. The majority of my daily commute is on the highway and cruising at 75 seems to be its happy spot.
My average mpg over 1100 miles is just under 102 which make me smile ear-to-ear. Wish I had bought this bike sooner! |
I had a good day of riding today and got to put a few miles on the KPR with the new exhaust. I went 273 miles and put 3.08 gallons of gas in it. Thats 88.6 mpg! I did a lot of wide-open full throttle interstate riding and before the exhaust upgrade, I would only get 50's mpg so that's a huge improvement. I'm going to have to check my plug and keep an eye out on the temps to make sure it's not running too lean. I don't think it has huge improvements on power over my gutted stock exhaust, but it does seem to hold higher speeds for longer. I was running down the interstate holding 78-80 mph (speedometer) at times, that's pretty darn good in my opinion. And it sounds awesome

Next morning spark plug check, nice light gray ash color, the plug on the right is a brand-new plug for contrast
|
That's awesome herbie! Sounds like quite the day you had on the KPR!
The longest single ride I've done to date is just a touch over 40 miles. |
I have a question for owners of these. Would you say you have to lean over a bunch tonrode this one? I’m trying to decide between this and the kpm and both seem close but I’m not really sure. Are there moss to raise the handle bars a bit?

Installed new blinkers that have the brake lights and running lights. The running lights are very bright and come on with the key switch.
|
Looks nice and tidy, good job Jim! I especially like it from the front, the OEM sticks out kinda far on the rear too and those bring it in better
|
Thanks herbie! They work great and look even better than the photos make them appear.

For connecting the running lights, I used the brown wire under the left side upper trim piece. That's the wire for the 2 z- style lights on the sides of the headlight.

Awesome Jim!!! Good info, i appreciate it

Was a cool 33 degrees for my ride to the shop this morning! I used my heated gloves and heavy leather jacket along with a scarf and was pretty comfortable. The temp tomorrow is supposed to be in the mid to upper 20's so I'll most likely wear some thermals and see how it goes.
It's about a 15 minute ride so it's not too bad and I'd like to be able to ride as long as the roads are dry and safe. Only place on me that got a little chilly were my cheeks so I may look into a face mask to help. |
Dang Jim your a tough cookie! Being thin and older :D I just don’t like the cold weather. I can ride just fine in the low 50’s but when it gets into the 40’s I can tolerate it but not fun, if it’s in the 30’s I’m pretty much done. Good on you for hanging in there, I hope you can continue as long as possible.

I really don't like the cold weather either but decided to give it a try to see if I could manage it. With the thermals on, my insulated leather jacket and heated gloves, I've made it to 29 degrees so far. The good part is that the afternoon temps usually reach 50+ so the ride home is nice.
We typically don't see this cold of weather until February so this is really unusual for this time of the year. I thought about buying a heated vest but having made my 15 minute journey in 29 degree temps, I don't really see the need to. Not sure how much lower I can go as far as temps go but I "think" I'll be okay down to 25. I won't ride if there's any moisture in the air or if the roads aren't dry as I'm not interested in slipping and sliding. I'm 56 years old and scrapes and bruises don't heal as easily as they used to. :) One thing I have noticed about the bike is that it really has to be fully warmed up to rev above 8,000rpms. I usually let it warm up 4 to 5 minutes before leaving the garage and if I go full throttle in 1st gear leaving the house (which I really don't do much), it will have a few hiccups above 8,000rpm until it is fully warm. I'm sure it's the air temp sensor trying to make adjustments for the environment and now that I know it doesn't like it, I take it easy for the first few miles of the ride. Elevation here is close to 4,000 feet and I know that the ECU makes adjustments with a barometer sensor or something similar but it would be nice to know what my air fuel ratio is so I may use one of the spare air fuel meters and wideband sensor I have from my car and see where it's at. Not sure what I'll do if it's not where I think it should be as I haven't seen much for tuning these with the exception of the HUD Hacker software or the Magnum Tuning module and while I'd like to make some adjustments on my own, I'd feel more comfortable having some more support from users that have been able to make adjustments with the HUD software and I haven't found any yet. Luckily I'm able to keep the bike parked inside at home and at work so I haven't had to sit on a freezing seat which does help a lot. |
I have the same lean condition on my bike until it fully warms up also. if you come up with anything let me know, Jerryhawk 250 suggested I try adjusting the gulp screw which I haven't tried yet, but I plan on playing with it a little. Stay warm and ride safe Jim!

Will do herbie!
