I did the same thing but had to fiddle a bit with the throttle cable as the cable is a bit short and when I turned the bars the engine would rev. Scared me the first time as I was pulling into a parking spot and the bike started to take off.

bars were lifted like few months back, the issue of dead feul pump arose last week in wilderness.. I am trying to recreate the same situaiton today but it worked fine so we asembled it back and when I was about to leave the work shop it did not worked again... its random...

Getting ready for Marlinton
A few of us are gathering in Marlinton, WV, 24-27 Aug. Today I installed new mirrors and gave the bike a good overall check. Had to add a bit of coolant and tighten a couple clamps. It has been so hot here that I have not had the Zong on the road in at least 90 days. Now I get a chance to correct that oversight. The RX3 seems to be as anxious as I am.

Well, I will continue the story with the repair of my motorcycle. I replaced the defective bearing, a pair of it and two more, which I did not like in the engine casing. I replaced the oil pumps, as the metal shavings spoiled them, I cleared the cooling channels and assembled the engine.
I drove about 700 miles and heard a crash from the engine again. I fell apart one more bearing. Only now is the bearing located in the head of the engine. The entire motor is again in the shavings. Wow , that's a real bummer Rus. I guess you may need to completely take motor down to make sure there is no more shrapnel in motor ??? Otherwise repeat fail. How many miles on bike? I take it had good oil in motor? What where riding conditions all those miles? just curious not blaming anything or anyone. rj

rjmorel Yes, I'm more inclined to ask the repairer to disassemble the motor again, clean it all out again and replace all native bearings with new ones. I used only MOTUL 10W40 oil. At the moment, the mileage is about 13,200 miles. The main movement on asphalt roads. A similar breakdown with less damage recently appeared in my friend. But its mileage is almost 27,000 miles. |
Oil change and valve adjustment

Not all today, but finished up today!
1. Rode a couple hundred miles to get the oil good and warm; when I got home, mileage was at 4223, or about 2900 since my last oil change. 2. Dropped the oil, filters, etc, and replaced oil drain plug with the CSC quick-drain kit that I purchased back in June, along with the CSC skid plate. 3. Somehow stripped the threads on one of the studs (or crossthreaded the nut) that holds the cover for the replaceable oil filter in place. Didn't realize it wasn't tightened all the way down until I started the bike and blew oil everywhere! 4. Ordered two new threaded studs (25 cents each) and 10 new nuts (20 cents each) for a total of $2.50-shipping was quick via USPS, but cost $4.40-the peril of buying small stuff, I guess. 5. Replaced the threaded stud-that went smoothly, and took about 2 minutes with a heat gun and some ViseGrips. 6. Tore it all apart for a valve adjustment, adjusted the valves, did something wrong, started it up, and it was LOUD. Not sure what I did. Shut it down immediately, tore it apart, adjusted valves again (set them all at 0.08 mm), buttoned it up, and it purrs like a kitten. Replaced the oil I blew out last week, and she's ready to ride. This mechanic learning curve can be steep for one who's never done stuff like this before, but this forum is a HUGE help and I can't say thank you enough for all the things I've learned here. New GPS Mount
At the recent WV 'Madness' I saw that both Tim and Dan had mounted their GPS above the speedo/tach. That appeared to be a much better location than mine (just above the triple tree and bars). They could look at the GPS without taking their eyes off the road...I could not. So...a couple rainy days and some scrap aluminum led to my version of their idea:
