That there's your problem.

Time to shell out $30 for parts.

Relic 10-26-2012 04:43 PM

Leakdown gives me 90% leakage. I could hear it blowing into the crankcase, so went to unscrew the cap to verify, and it blew it into my hand when it got to the last thread. Me thinks it's got some piston/ring damage! hahaha

FastDoc 10-26-2012 04:50 PM

$45 later you're good to go! :P

I'd probably inspect and lap the valves while it's apart.

I'd also be very careful to make sure the air filter is clean and effective to help prevent the new unit from wearing prematurely.

That second ring looks a little stuck.

For a few bucks more, you can buy a complete head, assembled. You can also get bare castings, but why would you?

FastDoc 10-26-2012 10:42 PM

Now that's a diagnosis if there ever was one.

Relic 10-26-2012 11:47 PM

Haha yeah the problem is pretty evident now, eh? The piston skirts and cylinder wall are pretty scored up too. The valves and piston are both just caked in carbon as well. What's a complete head go for? Are they reliable, or do they need a rebuild, right outta the box? Haha
i think I'll order that 110cc cylinder and piston kit unless there's a cheaper way to get it complete with head?

Weldangrind 10-27-2012 01:48 AM

Dunno which way is cheaper, but here's a head: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/110cc-Complet...item231f36ab97 Knowing that you get a new cam with it is a good thing. How's your cam?

FastDoc 10-27-2012 01:54 AM

Shipping is a killer from that vendor. $40+!

Weldangrind 10-27-2012 01:58 AM

I hadn't thought of that, since I go for the free US shipping and cross the border to get it.

Don't worry, I do the same. I'm only an hour from Oroville, WA, and I have a good friend who works at the border, so he's kind enough to grab packages for me a lot of the time. There's a pub down there (3rd building past the line!) That charges $2 per package, and is open til 4am, so it's mighty convenient!

I didn't actually pull the cam yet either. Just popped the head off, set it aside and pulled the piston, before I got in trouble for making a mess in the kitchen  so I slapped it all back together, finger tight, so as not to lose anything, and called it an evening.

Relic 10-27-2012 03:07 AM

Is this the same head?

About $10 cheaper, and has gaskets...

katoranger 10-27-2012 08:36 AM

Mess in the kitchen. I can only work on the dining room floor.

My vote is to purchase a new head, piston, and cylinder. They are so cheap that it only makes since.

Dining room isn't possible. It's got car parts piled up on the table, and newer flooring. The kitchen still has old linoleum, so I figured it was the safest place :P

I bought the cylinder and piston yesterday, and will probably spring for the head today. hopefully get the parts next weekend and get it back together.
Is the carb going to need any work with all this extra displacement?
