I have version 2 designed in my head already. I'll run this one till version 2 is built lol

It appears that you notched the tube with a steak knife. Very Red Green of you. :D

Nicely done beta test. I don't see the point of welding a spring point if the nut and bolt do the trick. You'll need to weld a foot onto the tube, but that's easy.

I think I'm going to create a hinge piece out go something solid like 1"x1" square or something. And weld this piece of stainless to it. Slightly angled outward to be more stable. Seems very vertical at the moment and I'll put a foot on it.

Notch was done with an angle grinder lol. Everything was eyeballed. Version 2 I'm aiming for perfection. Just need to accumulate pieces now. I have the pieces I need at work. Plus band saw ect.
So I think I'll be able to make something much nicer.

I would've cut it with an angle grinder like you did. My buddy has a band saw that I can use, and I never think of that.

No major update here but the petcock I ordered is genre

I can finally stop clamping the fuel line lol
I dident think it was going to come with the strainer either. None in the tank right now.

That fuel petcock is a great deal at $6.50, delivered.

Weldangrind 08-19-2014 10:28 AM

The strainer is nice, but I still use an inline filter. I've learned to buy only filters that are made in USA, since I've had the China filters come apart on me. Raw fuel on a hot engine is a bad mix.

Dave_D 08-19-2014 12:56 PM

I'll still be using an inline filter on this bike.
Currently have a chineese one on it lol hmm
Might look into a replacement

I installed this inline fuel filter on my Zong. :)

Dave, this is the supermoto fender I was telling you about. It would probably look good on Jess' bike. Find it here: http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=2979100123 It's about $6.22 plus shipping.

That's a very nice looking fender for 6 bucks. I'm trying to come up with a few things to order from taobao to save on shipping.
Have a few ideas so far. And this is defiantly one of them

fun project, the unifilter sticking out makes it look like a hotrod. with a good seat and the front fender sorted, the bike will look fantastic. rest looks rustic but that s a look. you could just preserve the rust to make it intentional.

i redid my metal seatpan with layers of a 10$ camping mat and covered it with sheepskin from car seat covers. add 5 bucks wort of glue and i got the best seat ever. and australia s more expensive!

Chinese wrap it with these :) http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=39482865830 "Terylene mesh" from day 1.

After finishing up today's honey do list. I snuck outside to swap the petcock on the XR
I was far to lazy to drain the tank. So I removed it and placed it on its side (it did drip from the vent but the process dident take long)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...CD294641E4.jpg
(Yea I know. It's already removed in the pic lol)

Here are the petcock a side by side
The strainer on the original was fubared when I did the rust removal.
The reserve with thus petcock is about 3/4" lower then before. But I can live with that

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...A91D0A5A7C.jpg

And here it is on the bike

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...EF034EC17B.jpg

I can finally stop clamping the fuel line wooo
I fired it up for a test run and the bike eventually quit. I poped the fuel line off.... Nothing
Not assuming it was the petcock I cracked the gas cap open. It started flowing.
I smacked the cap on the ground and seems ok now.
Wondering if there's better aftermarket caps. Or options here

Thanks

Dave
