I just wonder why Zongshen bothered especially as this required fitting a longer throttle cable. :hmm:

good on the longer throttle cable for us, makes raising the handlebars easier. rj

Around town at 5300 ft, the stock gearing has been fine for me so far. But after break-in, I'll be riding the foothills and trails at 8000 ft and higher. I should get a 13t. Maybe we should do a group buy unless CSC orders a bunch.

I live at 9,200'. I've been riding the bike (Only 500 miles so far) from home up to about 11,500' and down to town at 6,000'. A good bit of that on Forest Service roads.

So far I am happy with the how things work stock. I agree that a 13 tooth CS sprocket would probably make for better response on steep trails at lower speeds.

Cheers,

Dan K.

I've been riding my RX3 for 5,000 miles, and the 13T C/S sprocket performs better under all conditions. I can even ride faster on the interstate highways with the 13T sprocket, since the bike doesn't slow down so much on extended inclines above 5,000 feet in elevation. Ride the twisty back roads at elevation with the 14T sprocket, and you are constantly shifting the transmission, since the stock bike is geared too high. If you weight more than 200 pounds, and ride hills above 5,000 feet, you will never go back to the 14T C/S sprocket, after you have tried the 13T C/S sprocket. :) If you weigh 150 pounds, and ride flat roads near sea level in Florida, Indiana, Illinois, et cetera, you might prefer the stock 14T sprocket. ;)

The riders from CSC, China, and Columbia started their 5,000 mile, adventure ride today. :)

CSC is also developing a nice skid plate for the RX3.

Where'd you acquire the 13t sprocket?

I bought the 13T C/S sprocket for my Zongshen RX3 at Taobao, which is the Chinese equivalent of eBay. The NC250 (ZS177MM) engine is employed by a number of different motorcycles. Of course, all these bikes also use the same C/S sprocket. ;)

I got clobbered by Imogene Pass today because I couldn't maintain enough momentum to make it through a set of tricky switchbacks. WANT!

I feel your pain on the switch backs Cim. I found I had to use a lot of clutch slipping to get through the few sets I've ridden my RX3 through. Not a trials bike for sure. For most of what I do the gearing is fine. Just not hard core first gear technical stuff. rj

At Colorado elevations, you will notice a definite improvement in the engine's performance with a 13T C/S sprocket. ;)

Any Imogene photos? Did you make it to the top? I'll be riding Imogene pre Imogene running race. My girlfriend is running and I plan to be assiting up top. I rode her XT250 up their last year no problem. I need to get down that way and pre ride it!

Eric, maybe we can get a CO RX3 group 13t sprocket group order together.

Thanks for the info. My wife's working in China right now, I'll have to get her to do a little buying for me. Got a part number or seller's link?

Cheers,

Dan K.

Did my first oil change the other day.

I had to put at least 6 oz more oil than the manual calls for into the motor in order to get the oil to show at all in the view window.

Anyone experience this? Where's it all going?

Cheers,

Dan K.
