Heck, I fired it up yesterday. Still runs sweet.

Deja vu all over again.:)

Rode the Maggot to its new parking place today. Probably the only decent day to do it. It's still a fun ride.

Weld, I can tell you from first-hand experience, it doesn't solve anything. It just means you get more stuff to take up space in all the corners... :ohno:

I’m slowly working on that.

80 miles today.

I’d almost forgotten what 75 mph felt like. And I remembered to put my foot down at stop signs.:)

Emerikol 06-20-2020 08:31 PM

Nice!

It still lives.

Rode to the local Ural, Benelli, SSR, Royal Enfield, Zero, and God knows what else dealer today for Benelli, RE, and Zero Demo Day. Rode an RE Interceptor 650 with S&S cans it. Sounded great. Very smooth ride if a bit cramped. Has Oomph. At the end of the day, though, I'll keep the Maggot.

cheesy 01-30-2021 08:14 AM

Finally found a home for the Maggots' Finnish built CDI box that was replaced by the Aussie built Hall Effect ignition system. Funny thing is it is going to Sweden, next door to Finland.

Planning on doing some service work on the old girl this week. It's been pretty neglected since Arpok showed up. I noticed that the last time I rode it that the front brake felt strange so I decided to flush the master cylinder this evening. Probably a good thing.

Besides the fluid having turned brown, I found the relief hole in master cylinder partially plugged with crud. The only thing small enough I have to unplug the hole are the needles to my diabetic meds. I think they are something like 32ga. Sacrificed one of those.

You'd think that bleeding a one pot caliper would be easy. After pharting around for almost two hours and using nearly every tool in my arsenal of brake equipment, including two different Mity-Vacs, I hit on using a 50cc transfer syringe with out the bleeder cup. This one had never been used, so it was really vacuum tight. I put one end of the hose on the bleeder valve and the other end on the syringe, then pulled. It took almost 2 minutes with a steady pull on the syringe before I got the bubble, more like a balloon, out of the caliper. After that, everything worked like it should.

2LZ 07-13-2021 12:59 PM

Don't yuh hate it when something so simple can become so time consuming?
I got lucky on bleeding the XS11's rear brake. I'm hoping the fronts will be as cooperative.

cheesy 07-13-2021 04:01 PM

I was getting pissed.

cheesy 11-07-2021 04:15 PM

Prepped the old girl for winter. Which means I threw some Sta-bil in the tank and went for a short ride to warm everything up.
As the Maggot does not get ridden much anymore, I'm seriously considering losing the MC tags and going with Antique plates. It is almost 43 years old.

cheesy 10-27-2022 09:19 AM

Wow, almost a year since the last post.
The Maggot only got ridden twice this year. Once at the end of May and last Monday. The first few miles are always a bit tense. Will I remember to put my left foot down at a stop? (She's a heavy pig to pick up) Oh, yeah, no heel shifter and one more gear. Once I've relaxed a bit, whoo hooo!

Emerikol 10-28-2022 04:45 AM

I was about to start putting all the toys away for winter, and then I looked at the weather forecast. We have an entire week of 70+* days... Maybe I'll lay everything up after next week...

cheesy 10-28-2022 07:45 AM

Yeah, it's supposed to be in the upper sixties here next week. I can always buy another tank of gas and dump some more Sta-Bil in. Though, other than the DeSoto and the pop up, toys really don't put away for the winter.

buzz 11-01-2022 02:49 PM

Same here too ,nice riding i hope .

cheesy 08-09-2023 04:20 PM

Took the Maggot out for about 20 miles today. First time out this year. I think we’ve grown apart. It took a few of those miles just to get remotely comfortable on it. Not nerves, I just felt really cramped and my hips were bitching when I got off of it. Sigh. It’s getting ridden again on Sunday to a vintage bike show and will have a ‘For Sale’ sign on it.

It been 13 years since I dragged it home and put only about 7K on it. Less than 1K since the Ural moved in almost 7 years ago.

cheesy 09-23-2023 01:11 PM

With Arpok laid up, I ran errands on the Maggot yesterday. Starting to get used to being back on two wheels. I might actually get a second tank of gas this year.

I can relate to this, Cheesy. I haven't put gas in any of the bikes except the V-Star this year. I'm seriously considering thinning the herd some. I hate that I didn't get to ride very much at all this year. Luckily it's still warm down here in GA.

2LZ 09-24-2023 11:39 PM

I get it. My DRZ and a few others are up for sale. Especially if it's uncomfortable and causes a hip issue. I love them all but sometimes a guy has to cut ties with some of his favorite girls.

cheesy 09-26-2023 03:27 PM

I bought that second tank of gas today. So, 150 miles @3 gals of regular :wtf: 50mpg. The old broad has always been good on gas. That distance would be 6 gals of premium with Arpok.

cheesy 09-28-2023 07:51 AM

It looks like I'll be riding the Maggot for the foreseeable future, and I no longer commute to work anymore, so I pulled the scooter trunk off the rear rack. Just doing that makes it a lot easier to swing my leg over.

I had a minor 'oh, shit' moment when I went to remove it as I had wired a brake light to the trunk back in 2011. I had a sigh of relief when I lifted the seat and I actually wired it in with plugs. I was kind of patting myself on the back when I saw that I did a pretty pro job of wiring up that bike. Relays are all labeled, routing is neat, zip ties trimmed. It almost looked like I knew what I was doing.:D

cheesy 06-17-2024 09:10 PM

I took the old fart out for a run today. It started right up after sitting since Octember. Weird that a bike that’s so hard to throw a leg over can feel so cramped once my butt is parked on the seat.

Exactly how I felt about my brother's older Goldwing. It was amazing to me how huge the bike was but how cramped it felt once I was riding it.

cheesy 06-19-2024 07:58 AM

I took it out for another 50 last night. The cross winds were rough. I love the bike but I'm still thinking of finding it a new home and maybe going with something a bit smaller and lighter.

I avoid interstates like the plague, so something like an older RE Bullet 500 may fill the bill.

Right in my line of thinking.... I think an older Bullet would be awesome. My emotions say "older, drum brake, split motor", but my logic tells me "disk brake, unit construction motor".

Heck, I'm having a hard enough time remembering to put my foot down when at a stop on the Honda. A right foot shift, left foot brake would be...well...interesting.

cheesy 06-22-2024 06:47 AM

She's still a goer.

Uncomfortable at times, but still a goer. I met Old Weird Harold for breakfast yesterday in his little town and kinda, sorta took the long way home.

My Model G complicates matters even more. Not only is is right side shift, but it's "1-up, 3-down."

cheesy 06-24-2024 10:28 PM

I was pushing the old fart around in the garage, trying to get it in the right spot so I could close the overhead door without it tripping the sensor. Damn near dropped it, again, when the sidestand folded up. I felt joints popping while holding it up and getting the sidestand back down.

Another reason for probably finding it a new home.

No, no, 2LZ is on to something here... Bigger garage...

TominMO 06-26-2024 07:51 PM

Yes! Every Real Man needs a bigger garage. I think cheesy should do a search on "reasons for a larger garage" (I just did this), to come up with reasons to sell the spousal unit on this idea.
