I clean my oil filter every time I change the engine oil. I suggest you do the same, and examine the oil filter for metal particles, especially next time. ;)

After you've heated her up, it might be wise to change the oil and clean the filter again. It's cheap insurance.

I am glad to see you got to the problem before total failure! We still need to figure out a ride for us Chinariders, although I am hesitant due to the lack of secondary roads from Yuma to the Phoenix area; trying to ride I 8 which is posted at 75 mph will be tough, but I have seen some side roads parallel to it, and have seen bicycle riders on the shoulder on the parts w/o side roads, so I am not completely ruling it out.

Using autoboy blackbox pro and screenmaker pro to create this cool image..
After the oil xhange she revs over 7k now!! Thus she goes faster!! The specs in the manual say 7614rpm max power..
Still havent topped her out but the speedometer on bike showed 70mph and the app showed65mph.. bit still clicking along nicely!!

Here is the bike almost ready for plaati dip.
I have learned zongshen really like their branding. Since the paint the bike, put on the stickers , then they clrear coat over it..pain in the butt to smooth out the whole bike plastics.. but end result will be sweeet

I just looked up Plastidip on the internet. Sounds interesting.

I'm wondering if a clear version can be used as a semi-temporary bra to protect the paint of my Ducati or Gold Wing. Spray it on and peel it off when done?

bsskibum 10-08-2013 10:25 PM

Yes walmart sells that..clear for protectant..its in auto department armor all makes it

I've heard that the secret is in applying a rather thick coating, so that it can be peeled off easily when you wish. If the coating is too thin, it comes off in little pieces. I don't have any first-hand experience with the aerosol version, so YMMV.

Love the colour choice! I hope it works well for you. You shouldn't have much trouble recovering that seat yourself. What I've learned from the process is that you should choose UV-rated vinyl.

SpudRider 10-08-2013 10:49 PM

I really like your color choice. :) I can't wait to see a matte green Zong!

I am a plasti dip masta...
usually start with one thin coat..
(so you can still see original base thru it)
then a little heavier coat..
then two solid coats..
the distance you spray from is the key..
farther is more sparatic closer is more smooth..
6 inches is about the spot

the kits for whole cars is my next step..(instead of the rattle can)
its looks like the black and decker home sprayer...
https://www.dipyourcar.com/ has so many options..
the colors are incredible.. with pearl..metal flake.. blaze...
and you can change your color of your ride whenever you feel like it..
watch some you tube vids there are alot of em..

Your Zong is very lucky it found a good home. :) I'm confident you are the man who proves this bike to be reliable.

Weldangrind 10-10-2013 12:49 AM

You have me convinced. I want one.

bsskibum 10-10-2013 09:24 AM

weldandgrind..
when I first saw the ad on craigslist, the seller says this isnt a crotch rocket ..it isnt fast.. its china crap. but it will get you around town and can pass people...
When I took it home from his house,( where he had a brand new ninja 250 sitting next to her) she didnt even go over 55 with it cutting out around 5000rpm...
I thought for about a week that was all she had.. then I found this magical site and starting googling the bike and what the motor should be producing and discovered problems along the way.
after alot of tweaking I am almost to her potential, and after owning alot bigger bikes over the years ( suzuki gs500/honda cb750/honda gl500/suzuki 1100e) and a few scooters (eaton beamer 50/eaton matrix 50) this bike rates right up there for enjoyment, for riding around town. The 65mpg isnt too shabby either. It was all the seller said it was.. But even more...
problems encountered (found and repaired)
stretched chain
valve job
clogged oil filter
headlight bulb mount broken (bulb fell and was saved before it melted anything)
carb float gummed up and sticky
excessive spark plug gap (+/- .14)
broken front blinker mount(fairing cracked)
exhaust crushable washer not seated fully

stay tuned a few more upgrades are on the checklist..
air filter pods..
needle jet upgrade
front and rear sprocket ratio change (I want it to go around 80 so I can get on the freeways)
