wiring

hey spud i got a question concerning the green and white wire off the trigger coil if it suppose to go to a common ground string or on its own to the cdi box all the diagrams i found have it going from A to B with out connecting to any other grounds

SpudRider 05-07-2013 04:55 PM

I can't tell you, Kid. :? The CDI unit for my Zongshen 200GY-2 is an AC-CDI unit, and is wired differently than yours. I suggest you follow the lead coming from the pickup coil, and see where it connects. ;)

i followed both ends and one goes to the ground wiring the other right to the cdi but on both ac and cd the 8 pin skim shows the cdi having its own wires to the cdi no common grounds i was told the ly200 box would work on a 250gs any one tried by chance?

The original, stock CDI unit for my ZS200GY-2 was an LY200 CDI. However, it was an AC-CDI unit. Apparently, the LY200 CDI is available in both AC and DC versions. Here's a link to an LY200 CDI unit I found on Taobao.

http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=...id=20011299305

This is a DC-CDI unit, and it is supposed to work for your ZS250GS motorcycle. You should order the CDI-ZS067-002 shown in the link above.

My ZS200GY-2 motorcycle is now using a CDI-ZS067-001 unit, which is the AC version. I don't know why, but the AC version is over twice as expensive as your DC version.

Have you confirmed the ZS250GS wiring diagram is correct for your bike? Does you bike employ a DC-CDI unit, as shown in the wiring diagram?

The two wires from the pickup coil connect to two, separate connectors on the wiring harness for my ZS200GY-2 motorcycle. However, these wires disappear into the wiring loom, so I don't know if the ground wire is common. In any event, I don't think it makes any difference; a ground wire is a ground wire. ;)

Turn on the ignition key, and make sure the engine kill switch is in the "run" position. Get a digital multimeter, and set it to measure 12V DC. Then connect the negative probe of the digital multimeter to ground. One wire at a time, connect the positive probe of the digital multimeter to all of the wires in the harness connecting to the CDI unit. If one of the wires measures 12V+, your ZS250GS has a DC-CDI unit. ;)

You've got to replace the battery before you can test the CDI wiring. ;) What size battery is now installed? I would guess a YTZ7S battery will work well in your Zong, if the dimensions are correct. ;)
