well, we spent prolly 2 hrs removing/cleaniing tank and carb. the pilot jet was totally clogged. i ran a tip cleaner thru it and opened it up but some spots in carbs body had deteriorated. and carb drips fuel. but still not to bad, we had it running pretty quickly.

i just ordered a battery, carb and exhaust gasket for a total of $56! i need an ignition switch too but don't know if mine is 2 or 4 wire switch so i didn't order one. but they are $20 or less as well. so for less than $80 i should have everything needed to get it up and running with stock engine.

my buddy is recommending a lifan125 swap as it nearly doubles power output and is a more modern 12v system and no battery needed. and that set up is round $300 shipped to door. i may go that route eventually but for now i am just gonna get it going and have fun with it as is. the one thing i like about the stocker is the dual range gear box.. the lifan does not have that.

and my dog.... yeah she is interested in bout everything and is very good at picking up nuts n bolts you set on floor. soon as you are busy and not paying attention she snatches em up and goes out in yard and chews on em. she has her one spot she does this so when i come up missing something i walk out there and 90% of time it is sitting in that spot.

she is also real good at getting a drink of water and walking up and licking you on face when you are on back laying under a car drenching your face and glasses!!

I'm with you on keeping the dual range gearbox. You could always upgrade the electrical system and possibly even install a bigger crank and piston, if a bigger motor is that important to you.

I finally dug out those shocks. 14.25" ctr to ctr.

The CT's seem to fairly prevalent out west...here is an example of what I see on Craigslist a few times a month...sometimes they have received Zongshen or Lifan 125cc engine swaps!

i like this story!. I hope your dad is healthy and he appreciates that you are now taking care of his motorbike. My old man had a cb92 in the late 60ties he is now 65 and still talking about this motorbike. I found his old bike on the internet , its in wonderful condition and i thought of buying it for him but unfortunately i cant afford it

still runs like the day i bought er new back in 07 with 0.2 miles on the clock! been such a good bike. engine only been open for the doohickey swap very early on. aside from that... oil changes and point n shoot.

Today my 2006 Zongshen 200GY-2 passed 62,000 miles on the odometer. In another 137 miles, my Zong will reach 100,000 kilometers. :)

it is an 18" on front. i did that very early on, like maybe 2,000 miles on bike or less. mostly due to bangin over rocks down south in tn, nc.. with the 21 seemed to smack rim alot. don't have that problem with the 18.

it has a heavier feel for sure, kinda like a built in steering dampener. every now n then i will throw the 21 back on for heck of it and don't like it. steers very quick and feels like it will tuck front end. :wtf:

guess i am just used to it. i really don't even know which tire is on front as i have tried so many. i would have to look but usually run dunlop or maxxis. i am sure from now on it will be a maxxis as i got a line on very good condition take offs from local racer for $15 each!

i have had many bikes over the years but that wraggly klr is the keeper. don't know what it is about that thing but it works for me.
