I haven't tried to port and polish or anything like that yet, but I will.

So far, I've installed a pod filter, a free-flowing exhaust, a 112.5 main jet and a 27.5 slow jet in a Mikuni. It runs really well up to 65mph, where it tops out. I'm likely to swap in the 230 I have and port and polish at that time.

There's only so much we can do to a pushrod motor that has only one cam lobe, but I want to free it up as much as I can. I'm resisting the urge to use a no-rev-limit CDI, because I don't want to kill it.

I just put in a "racing" CDI which supposedly doesn't have rev limiter and it does seem to run better.

Is it harder to start? That's often the by-product of an advanced ignition curve.

Not harder to start. I bought it from Ebay
http://www.ebay.com/itm/250908061794...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
Haven tried the coil that came with it yet as wanted to change one thing at a time.

Weldangrind 08-19-2014 10:38 AM

I'm with you on that. I like to quantify changes, one at a time.

When it's convenient, do you mind to measure the length and width of that CDI for me?

I'd be glad to measure the CDI but they are no longer available from that guy on Ebay.

Weldangrind 08-20-2014 12:03 AM

Do you have your original CDI? If you have a moment to measure that, it will give me the info I need.

Barnone 08-20-2014 11:24 AM

Racing CDI

Approximate 2" wide, 3 3/4" long, 1" thick, electrical connectors 3/4" tall.

Weldangrind 08-20-2014 10:24 PM

You're a man of many tape measures.

Thanks for taking the time to measure the CDI; I spotted in the eBay ad that the racing CDI was a DC version, and they are a different size that AC CDI's. I suspect that my CDI is DC, and I can now compare the measurements.

Weld,
Can't have too many tape measures, flashlights, and screw drivers.

Still enjoying riding my DF here in the mountains of Western North Carolina.

Very cool. Whats in the trailer is that a camping setup?

Is that the same bike that Cleveland Cycleworks is selling as the Tha Heist?

Garbage in the trailer. Load for the dump.
Tow trailer behind all my bikes.
Similar to the Heist.

When did you get the Ural, Vince? How do you like it?

Barnone 07-05-2015 08:56 PM

I sold my 2012 Ural Yamal last year and I've had the 2015 cT for six months.
It's my favorite ride.
