I was wondering about that. Thanks for mentioning it. I had them throw my center stand in the box, therefore I will be installing it when I get the bike tomorrow. When you do finally have the center stand deployed, can your retract back the side stand? Or will they always be deployed together.

Thanks in advance for the info! :thanks:

I prefer to deploy the side stand before the center stand, so I haven't tried to do it otherwise. ;) However, I always retract the side stand before I retract the center stand; I don't have any problems whatsoever doing this. :)

Thank you brother! Hope everyone has a wonderful Sunday. I'm going to get my tool box ready for tomorrow's delivery. I hope it comes in the morning. That way I can get a plate on that baby by mid-day and ride it around for a bit. :yay:

Installed a GPS

I broke the 'Good Idea Cut-Off Point" rule...Don't make any mods to the bike just prior to a trip. Tomorrow I launch for a short trip to the HU meeting in Virginia. Today I mounted a GPS. What could possibly go wrong...

Lots of folks like RAM mounts, I hate them. Thus I'm stuck making my own. I start out with some scrap aluminum and fab up some 10mm spacers:https://photos.smugmug.com/Motorcycl...DSCF0121-M.jpgThese allow me to mount a plate above the handlebar mount:

Then I need a bracket for the GPS. I have had terrible luck in guessing the exact angle to mount the GPS so I can read it under way so this time I'm making it adjustable for angle.
https://photos.smugmug.com/Motorcycl...DSCF0122-M.jpgI also mount anti-vibration pads (3mmX15 from www.quadrocopter.com) because I have had problems with high frequency vibration killing the electrical contacts between the mount and the GPS.
https://photos.smugmug.com/Motorcycl...DSCF0126-M.jpg
with it all bolted up there is still room for the ignition key.
https://photos.smugmug.com/Motorcycl...DSCF0129-M.jpg
Now to see if this rig survives real world use, wish me luck!

You did a beautiful job, Peter. :) That mount is so robust, I doubt you will have any problems with it. ;)

Please take lots of photographs at the Horizon's Unlimited meeting, and post a ride report after you return. :)

detours 04-27-2016 05:28 PM

So Peter, how much are you selling those mounts for?

:)

rjmorel 04-27-2016 06:48 PM

Nice craftsmanship Peter on the GPS mount. Can you still see the tach and gages behind it?
Do take lots of pics at HU for us.
rj

pyoungbl 04-27-2016 09:00 PM

Thanks for the kind words. Yes, tach and speedo are in clear view...gas means I have to move my head a bit. I could not move the GPS to the left much more and still clear the windscreen. No plans to make any more. The labor required is embarrassing because I'm not a machinist, just a hobby tinker type. It's like the old saying "A grinder and paint make me the welder I ain't." In this case it's a matter of being able to throw away lots of scrap in order to get one part that might fit. Oh, and I intend to take lots of photos at HU.

Sure like the new paint scheme on the 2016's with the piece with the CSC roundel being painted the same color as the tank. That white is stunning.
