A short local ride with Roger.
It was great until I got a flat
![]() Autopsy revealed a sheared valve stem but I don't know if that was the primary injury or damage from riding on a flat. We were quite a bit up in the hills on some hard desert packed singletrack. I had to ride about 3 miles to get down. We stashed the bike in an orchard and went to get the truck. ![]() ![]() The Mighty Columbia River on a pretty fall day. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Kennewick, Washington. A flat on the rear? A rim lock would prevent the valve stem from being ripped off. I agree with your assessment that it became damaged after it went flat. Did you install one of those crazy thick Michelin tubes?

The only bike shop open yesterday only had a regular 'Bikemaster' tube so I used it.
The tire is 2/3 worn anyways so in another 750-1,000 miles it will need to be replaced, and I usually get a new tube when I replace a tire. I don't think this bike has the power to spin a tire on the rim, especially at the 25 PSI I was operating at. The YZ, no problem.... ![]()

The KLX, BTW does not run rim locks.

I wonder if that's because it's a DS. Perhaps the rim lock would be too far out of balance at speed.

The YZ runs rim locks and you can really feel them at speed (50+) on the road. They make some very light polymer ones nowadays I may try. They are designed to be balanceable at highway speed.
