I guess if you remove the OEM boots, or your dirt bike didn't come with them I guess this would be an alternative. More common than I thought, I guess.

I've usually seen them on more street oriented bikes that dirt. Nowhere near as much protection as full fork gaiters obviously. I ran them for looks more than protection honestly.
