Thank you, Stew.

Those are the tires which came with the bike. The are Dunlop tires, but I don't remember the model number. :?

Stew,

I was doing some work on my CRF250X this afternoon, and I finally took a good look at both tires. I don't know why I thought the tires were Dunlops. :? The rear tire is a Shinko Holeshot 505, size 100/100-18.

http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com...Rear-Tire.aspx

The front tire is a Pirelli Scorpion Pro FIM, size 90/90-21.

http://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/p/...pion-Pro-F.I.M.

They are both nice tires, with a lot of life left in them.

Those are good looking tires Spud! That front Pirelli in particular looks like it would clean out good in the Idaho mud with it's open tread. I'll be interested to hear your review of the rear once the season opens up enough for you to get up into the mountains. I'm looking forward to your R/R's

Edited because I spelled Pirelli wrong. Lol!

The weather was nice this afternoon, so I decided to do some more work on my CRF250X. The drive chain was a little too loose, so I decided to adjust it. I noticed one of the chain adjusting nuts was rounded off, so I rode my CRF250X to the local Honda shop and bought a new one.

After returning home, I needed to remove the rear wheel to install the new nut. Therefore, I inspected the entire wheel, and tightened the spokes before I re-installed the wheel. Then I lubricated the drive chain.

I had mounted an Acerbis, dual sport mirror, but I still couldn't see anything behind me. I had bought a pair of mirror perches on eBay for $5.95, delivered. However, I couldn't find space to mount these mirror perches on my 1-1/8", Pro Taper, Contour handlebars. :(

Then I got an idea! I discovered the back of the clamps would fit my existing clutch and brake perches! I installed the rear halves of both mirror perches, and was able to mount the stock mirrors from my Honda XR650L. After mounting the mirrors, I decided to go for a ride.

The mirrors worked superbly! I had no vibration in the mirrors, and they afforded an excellent view to the rear. Nevertheless, I am going to buy a pair of Ken Sean, folding mirrors for both my Zong and the CRF250X. In the meanwhile, the XR650L mirrors will give me a good view behind.

Thank you, Stew. A lot of snow melted today; March came in like a lamb. I'm still hoping for an early riding season. I will be sure to report how well the tires work. I am particularly impressed with the Scorpion Pro, front tire.

My UFO rear fender had an LED brake light as well as a tail light. However, the the previous owner had not wired the brake light. Therefore, I bought a Tusk Hydraulic Brake Switch for Nissin brakes.

http://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/p/...+nissin+brakes

I installed the switch on my rear master cylinder, and routed the wires along the subframe a safe distance from the exhaust pipe.

I wired the switch into the brake light wire coming from the rear fender, and everything works great! The brake light is very bright, even in daylight.

I was contemplating adding a small, electric, bicycle horn to complete my street-legal modifications. Instead, I decided to purchase a Tusk Compact Control Switch.

http://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/p/...control+switch

My headlight bulb has two filaments, but it currently only uses the low beam. After mounting the Tusk Control Switch, I will have both a high beam, and a low beam for the headlight. I will also be able to turn off the headlight. In addition, this control has a switch for turn signals, as well as a horn button.

I plan to wire a small motorcycle horn directly to the battery, with an inline fuse. Heeding the wise consul of Weldangrind, I will probably add turn signals at a later date. However, turn signals are not required to make a motorcycle street-legal in Idaho.

I really like the Tusk D-Flex handguards I installed on both my Zong and Honda XR650L. Therefore, I also plan to install the D-Flex handguards on my CRF250X.

I think I will purchase the red handguards with black spoilers. What do you guys think?

http://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/p/...lers-Red-Black

I hope I won't have any trouble mounting the D-Flex handguards to my 1-1/8" handlebars. I plan to use the Tusk Big Bar Adapters.

Red with black is an excellent choice for the handguards.

Spud, may we see a close-up of your perch / mirror solution?

Thanks for your feedback, Weld. You have impeccable taste, and I value your opinion.

I will take a macro photograph of my mirror mounts the next time I have the opportunity.

Today I removed the front wheel, inspected it, and tightened the spokes. Since I will be installing a Trail Tech Vapor computer on my CRF250X, I also removed the odometer and odometer cable from the motorcycle. In addition, I removed the odometer sending unit from the front wheel.

To ensure the front wheel was spaced properly between the forks, I had previously purchased on eBay a complete front axle with spacers for the CRF250R race bike. Before re-installing the front wheel, I put a dust seal over the bearing on the right side of the wheel. Then I re-installed the front wheel using the CRF250R axle and spacers. Here’s how the front wheel looks minus all the odometer equipment.

At some later date I might get the CRF250R lower fork guards, which omit the mounting bracket for the odometer cable.

Today I also installed a Tusk Compact Control Switch, and wired my headlight for high beam, low beam, and off positions. Therefore, my handlebar controls are all finished! Here are some photographs of the mirror perches and the Tusk control switch mounted on the handlebars.

Here’s the way the bike looks in completed, dual sport configuration for the state of Idaho, minus the stock odometer equipment.

The hardest part of today’s work was relocating the Honda kill switch, which fell apart several times before I finally got it re-attached to the handlebars!

Here’s the way my dashboard looks at present, minus the stock odometer. I’m still deciding how I wish to mount my Trail Tech Vapor computer. I will also be adding an ignition switch designed for the Honda CRF230F, so my bike won’t be so easy to steal when I take a short hike up the mountain, or stop inside a store for a few minutes.

The Tusk control has a rocker switch for turn signals. Therefore, I will add an LED flasher relay, wiring, and four turn signals at a later date. Turn signals are not required for street motorcycles in Idaho.

I also plan to add some Tusk D-Flex hanguards in the next week or so.

+1 with the red and black for the handguards Spud, that will go nicely with the current color scheme of the bike

Yeah, those kill switches are a nuisance.

I thought that's what you meant about the perch / mirror mount; thanks for clarifying. What a stroke of luck that the mirror mounts matched the perches! What brand are the mounts?

Thank you, Stew. The Tusk Compact Control Switch is very rugged, and doesn't take up much space on the handlebars. In addition, this control switch was very easy to wire, and doesn't cost very much. I am very pleased with this purchase.

Aftermarket plastic is very inexpensive for the Honda CRF250X/CRF250R. The previous owner also gave me an original, red, front fender for this bike. Therefore, I can easily change the color of the front fender and lower fork guards whenever the mood suits me.
