Reading the TTO Temperature Gauge is very easy; it only requires a quick glance.

Reading the XRs Only Dipstick is very difficult; the numbers are small, and the graduated marks are closely spaced together. Also, the analog design is inherently more difficult to read, even if the gauge were larger. In addition, the lens is reported to leak, allowing water to enter under the lens. After water enters the lens, it fogs, making the dial impossible to read! 8O

I'm very glad I installed the TTO Temperature Gauge for $35, plus the cost of a couple brass fittings. The XRs Only dipstick cost $40, plus shipping, and is much inferior. In addition, I like the placement of my TTO gauge much better. I want to read the temperature of the oil as it exits the engine, not at the oil reservoir.

I still debate a TT Vapor for the YZ. All the instruments PLUS coolant temp. I am still on the fence about D/S'ing the YZ, although I probably will just for convience in connecting trails, getting gas while out on the trail, or riding to different trailheads from my house.

The TT Vapor doesn't cost much; it represents an excellent value. It's a good idea to monitor coolant temperature. If something is going wrong, you will likely discover the problem before you get stranded somewhere, or damage your engine.

The info provided by the TT would be very handy. A D/S conversion would add value to the bike. Not that you're planning to sell this one, but you might.

I am very much looking forward to your Vapor review.

I think I'll hold onto the YZ a year or two until my finances recover and then get a 2-3 year old fuel injected WR450 or similar. That would be the definitive bike for me, a dirt version of the Gold Wing.

I've been riding with my Spud Cooler for about 8,000 miles, and it is working great! I am usually seeing 20 degree drops in oil temperature, and the installation has been completely trouble-free.

It's still smokey here; that photo was captured on a day with a favorable wind. I'm told the U.S. Forest Service is waiting for snow to put the fires out. :(

Spud has not been around for a long time, So you may just need to read the thread through and find the parts list he put up for it to build your own cooler.
