Gold colored thingy on disk brakes?

What does the Gold colored thingy do on the disk brakes? I see some China bikes with them on both brakes and some with them on just the front brake and some without them at all. A friends bike (Diamo brand 200cc dual sport) had them on both brakes and I was very impressed with how good they worked. The Jet Moto I road didn't have them on either and the brakes weren't that good .Thanks, Rob

If it's the device where the hose bolts on, Mine is an ABS setup.

Rob,
The gold thingy's are an Anti-lock Brake system for bikes, mine seems to work quite well so it stays...Alot of people have removed them for one reason or another (may get broken off while trail riding.) I think it is more personal preference though.. There are some posts on here about them if you really want to know more...

Our bikes have them on the front only and they work very well on the road.

When I first tried them I was a bit reluctant but soon I was griping down on the front brake as hard as I could and the bike would nose dive a bit but it had totally useable front braking.
I would never do that offroad even with the ABS but onroad it does work well.

Mine work well and both ends, but I can easily lock the rear. Or as bruce says those are the "mini NOS bottles".

If you would like a set I am sure someone will be happy to donate theirs that they took off.

I will be keeping mine unless they break as I don't have a reason to remove them yet.

Thanks for the quick replies everyone. So could these be a quick way to add ABS to other road bikes that don't come with ABS by just installing them between the caliper and brake line? Just thinking out load. The china bike I road that had them front and rear had very good brakes even compared to my Jap bike. Thanks Rob

I don't know about adding them to anther bike, but in theory it should work. Just remember that the chinese bikes weigh alot less than most street bikes too. My bike stops on a dime compare to my old yamaha and it had dual front disc.

i have grabbed the front brake almost as hard as i can on the road in dry and slippery conditions, it seems to work really well. I did try it off road in the grass and it didn't seem to want to lock up, but i wasnt trying to wreck my bike to figure it out either. I am going to leave mine till a rock or log takes it off for me. My back brake locks up at ease and seems to maybe even stop the bike better.
