CSC New Model Unveiling Friday April 16th
Just checked CSC's Facebook page and saw this announced for Friday. It's supposed to happen live at noon. How much do you want to bet that it is a British retro-styled standard with a 380 cc parallel twin engine?

Yes, they have EPA approval on the RE3 and RZ3S.

There we go!
Two bikes instead of one. Now I wonder which bike from other manufacturer's these are meant to compete with, since there are so many sub 500 cc British retros and trellis framed nakeds to choose from on the market right now, lol. Generally not my cup of tea, style-wise, but that 380 cc parallel twin engine interests me greatly. I'll probably have to pick one of these up, since the RX3S will not be making an appearance. There goes another four or five grand; damn you CSC! Going to have to sell one or two bikes to make room for another one, since five is my hard limit due to garage space. Probably clear out the GoldWing and the Versys 650, since they hardly get ridden more than once or twice a year currently. Plus the insurance is twice what the Chinese bikes cost me for full coverage. |

There will also be some Zongshen intros on the web from Canton starting this week.

Unfortunately I think the pricing is too high for these new models to have much success. The Husqvarna 401 Vitpilen, probably the closest competitor to the CSC RE3-SG400 is priced within a few hundred dollars. Even if the fit and finish of the SG400 twin is amazing, its has the 300W alternator and accessories outlets there's still no dealer network and resale value is questionable.

As far as comparisons with the Vitpilen 401 go, this is a much less stressed 380 cc parallel twin, versus the 373 cc single in the 401. And as much as it may pain people to hear it, I prefer a Zongshen engine to a KTM engine on the basis of reliability. Plus, you're getting tubeless spoked wheels to boot on the SG400, and dual disc front brakes on the RZ3S if you go that route. Now, you may be right on the pricing; they're in RX4 ADV territory without the luggage. However, I don't see you getting out of any Husqvarna dealer for less than $1000 over whatever deal you manage to cut on a 401; the cheapest of which I could find on Cycletrader was this one - 2020 Husqvarna Motorcycles VITPILEN 401, $4999 MSRP ;- $1000 MSM Discount ;+ $450 OEM Destination Charge ;+ $1030 Added Markup ;= $5479 Total Sale. So $5500 before any shipping, for arguably less motorcycle. CSC has demonstrated more than once that they are not afraid to alter their pricing if the initial response is lacking. They dropped the RX4 by $400 and made the resin luggage standard shortly after its introduction at $5395. I would expect them to do the same here if demand should prove to be less than they anticipated at these prices. And if the popularity of the SG250 is any indicator, I suspect that these are going to sell pretty well. |

SG250 was over a thousand less then the TU250, it's only real competition. That's a huge amount when the SG250 sells for under $2400. It's hard to buy or sell vehicles in general when you don't have a local dealership to support them. I deal with this lots owning Subaru's. Chinese motorcycles are no different, if there isn't a local dealership many classified shoppers won't even consider them. Even in my small city we have both KTM and Husqvarna dealerships. I know I would have a challenge selling my TT for more the a third what I paid for it. Nobody has a problem selling Japanese or European machines ever, except Aprilia or Ducati and only because we don't have these dealership local. Takes months for those to typically sell even when prices are reasonable. I think people will be even more cautious buying a $4k+ Chinese machine compared to a $2k+ TT250 or SG250 especially when the price difference from Chinese to non Chinese is diminishing. For me the most attractive thing about buying a Chinese motorcycle is getting a bike for half the price. I've never bought a new KTM or Husqvarna so I don't know if the OTD pricing is as bad as you say, I do like that there transparent on the $450 delivery fee, (which I added in). Seems strange to be transparent about one fee then also add in others but I wouldn't put it past a dealership.

The SG400 looks like kind of a compromise between the retro style of the Himalayan with the multi cylinder engine of the Z400. I like it, even if the price is not as low as I would like.
