Why won’t this fn tire go on?? Lolol

What did I tell you? I’m stuck. I can’t get the last bead of the tire to go on.

I know what has to be done. I think. The rest of the bead on the other side of the wheel has to go down into the groove where the spokes are. That will give me enough slack to get it over the rim. But I don’t know how to get it to go down into the groove! What do you do?

I am stuck right here. It will not go over the rim. The tire is smaller than the rim. At least it is smaller than the rim in a normal finished position.

maybe leave it the sun to warm up for 10 min and then give it the Popeye spinach treatment.

False alarm! The secret is to just take a little tiny bites out of it. 1 inch, stand on the other side while you are doing it, another inch, another inch, and all of a sudden pop! It goes on.

After all that it’s leaking. And it takes a loooong time to get a new tube. I have the heavy crappy one still but would rather put the Michelin in.

Not sure if you are using any lube on the beads, looks kind of dry in the picture. Some soapy water on the beads makes the tire a lot more manageable as the lube lets the tire slip around versus getting hung up on the bead dry. It also makes it easier to keep the majority of the tire in the deeper part of the rim to give you more slack to work with.

Well, now I have the el cheapo tube in the rear. IRC brand off Amazon. Heavy and thick. Shiny rubber. Yuck.

Getting the back wheel back in is insanely difficult. I had 4 parts trying to fall off while trying to thread the axle through them. And fall they did. A lot. Wow.

On to the front sprocket and chain now.

4000 mile (late) maintenance almost done.

Just need to do chain and front sprocket as well as front tire/tube. Brush guards/hand guards didn’t fit. Ugh

Did it all back road development style too.

Greased everything. Bearings, axle, tire. Oops! Yup. A ton of grease on my tire. Gotta soap and water that off before riding.

It’s true. It’s dry. I didn’t even use any tire juice. It went right on anyway. I didn’t need that stuff.

It was more of a false alarm on that part of things. But I did definitely wreck my good Michelin tube.

Megadan called that one.
