Time to vent
Cousin Jay takes his bike out, discovers new trails and even takes pics. Doesn't post the first one on here or even mention the adventure. That's fine, it's his bike and a free country.
Today he takes my Hawk on a fishing excursion in some of the most beautiful scenery we have around here. Ends up taking the bike swimming down the creek and swamps it. All good, in my mind that's what they're made for. But is there the first pic posted or the excursion even mentioned (and he did take pics)? Nope, nada.. Like it never even happened. The last time he had it out he climbed a muddy hill in the same area and almost flipped it at the top, I witnessed the muddy swingarm firsthand, but still.. zero mention and no pics. I guess I just need to get back on the Hawk myself because riding it vicariously has been less than satisfying. Last edited by OneLeggedRider; 09-22-2019 at 01:02 AM. |

Looks like I'm going to have to band Jay for a few days for failure of posting pics and videos per section 8.6.4a of the chinriders rules and regulations.

There are pics of yesterday, sent'm to Frank this morning. Took the old hawk over the woods and through the river. Good lil mile and a half jaunt down the creek. Caught 3 smallmouth and 1 large. On the way back is when I swamped it. Must of took a different route on the way back, next to last hole was the one that got a lil too deep.

Beautiful country! Thanks for the great pictures!!!
Swamped? I have a little story....camping trip, maybe in 2008, miles from the nearest town on a sketchy winding dirt/gravel road. The boys on wheelers, the oldest dumps mine in the lake, sucking water into the crankcase and fuel tank, early in the trip. I head to town to get oil filters, extra gas, oil etc. Filled the crankcase up with oil several times, drained, etc. Ran out of oil, as still had water, back to town again for more oil and filters. Took two of camping days to get the water out of the oil. Then one of the boys was riding thru camp grounds causing dust, and frustration for others. Ranger Bob run me down, luckily I knew him, and apologized. Took the keys away from the boys.Three years later, different camping spot, different lake. One of the family so called friends, lets one of his buddies use my wheeler, and dumps it the lake. Same 2 day scenario, but this time I learned to get extra oil. The wheeler was a cat, and the electronic speedo pod never worked again. Did the friend or friend of the friend pay for the expenses? I figured $500 would cover it all. Did I ever get paid? No Bueno. Lesson learned, no one rides my equipment (except the mrs), and I sold that wheeler.

Oh I don't mind the swamping at all, stuff happens and it's a dirtbike. And he got it going by draining the airbox and removing the filter, and draining the carbie bowl (as the NZ folks call it). That little screwdriver that comes with the toolkit saved his a$$.

And all this time I thought you converted the air box into a live well.

dude your crankcase ventilation tube goes into the airbox, so that being said you have water mixed in with your oil, definitely change that out.

Doesn't appear to have any water contamination but yeah, it's getting changed regardless.
