Hot Desert Sands

After Clinic I took the YZ to the desert for some afternoon riding today. I missed Roger, he is still out of commission with his knee.

I rode all afternoon and saw only two other bikes, I had this section of the desert all to myself. Because of this, I took it easy and watched my fuel as I did not want to get hurt or stranded while alone.

I love my Trailtech Vapor! It is nice to keep track of the time and engine and air temps. Funny I don't use the speedo much (too busy to look down) but it's nice to have. The shift warning and temp indicator lights are the most useful.

The air temp was 100 degrees today, and the hottest the bike got to was 202, and most of the time was in the 160-180 range. The bike seems to cool itself well as long as I keep moving. There is no fan of course, or thermostat.

I hit a max speed of 55 MPH on the sand, and believe me that's moving. Most of the sand trails were done at 15-20 MPH. They are nearly constant whoops and I rarely get to sit down.

Typical of the sand traials.

The YZ has been an amazing bike. I put about 120 hours on it so far and the valves are still in spec and it has required no repairs.

Someone had asked about the wear of the paddle so here's a picture.

Greeting from the Southeast Washington Desert.

TEASER:

Tomorrow is my birthday. The Big Four Nine. Linda and I will be taking the Gold Wing to Mount Rainier National Park for a picnic lunch and a hike to celebrate.

Maybe Washington is not so bad...
