New project. 1979 xs1100

This will be a very slow project as I don't have extra funds to support a full blown build lol.

But this gem poped up on my Facebook today



It was about an hour drive for me so I Dident inquire right away. It was about 4 hours after he'd posted it I said "30 and I'll come grab it" his response "deal"

So here she is at my house now. 30 bucks. My first motorcycle lol



I will be doing a vin search and I'm 99% sure I'll get registration for it.
I don't know much about it. Or it's condition. But lions otherwise complete.

The kid I got it from said he jumped the solenoid and it turned over a couple times then stopped and he gave up.

Good for you. That bike appears to be in excellent condition for a 1979 motorcycle.

Love the old XS bikes! My Dad scored one for cheap that is missing third gear, but who cares. It's still a blast to ride.

Have you gone through the ICBC title process before? I've had good luck with it on several bikes.

I have a friend that's going to help with the icbc thing.

Google xs1100 2nod gear fix (same for 3rd) it's common

Few more pics info progress from today.
The exhaust is going to need some repair



It has a hole at the bend. And it's caved in most of the length on one of the tubes.

A closer picture of carb/filters



The carbs are now removed. Disassembled. And parts are soaking in fresh gas

I should of looked closer at the other 3 carb boots. The 2 centre ones look good right side one I can't remember. But this left side one is defiantly the worse



With the carbs removed. I tried to see if it would fire



That's all for now. I should of took pics of the carbs. I hope they come out ok

What you can try on that carb boot is to coat it with some RTV silicone, slip a large diameter piece of heatshrink tubing over it and attack it with a heat gun. Or check out mikexs.net

Wow, guess I need to move to canada for a deal like that. I have been looking for a long time for a bike. Am probably going to go for some thing a lot newer. Was wanting to order a 250 like a hawk except i am afraid they may be sprung to stiff for me. My back the last couple months has been bothering me worse.

Living on a gravel/dirt road means I can't use a real heavy weight bike. I did ride a 470# bandit for 7 years with no problems on that road.

Cheesy pretty well has the fix on the boots. maybe a second layer of shrink tube too. After you get it running right and fixed up you might want to invest in the new set but I sure would want to be sure of the rest of the bike being good before sticking a lot of loot in it.

Take your battery to WalMart and get a match. The AGM sealed batteries at WalMart are very good quality.

Can you/have you get the spark plugs out? I would definitely get some lube sprayed in the cylinders.

Small update. Somewhat slow going
But I took ignition apart. Anything that fits in the hole works as a key now. Will probably replace once I get it closer to complete.
Same for the gas tank flat head with a crescent wrench opened it up. Again anything that fits will work now.
So in the end it still looks decent but functions for now

The carbs are a slow going process too lol. They are completely disassembled now and soaking in kerosene (will have to do 2 at at time so will be a couple days)
I noticed some of the floats need repair.

I'm not really interested in trying to solder them incase I make them worse.
Googled said seal all ?

Anyone here use it with good results. A lot I've come across have all been successful

I'll get more pics and hopefully update again soon

I'd try Permatex Cold Weld. It actually states that it's suitable for gasoline.
