Sprockets my 17 - 45

Ok gang, changed one of my Hawk's (the one I ride Black) Sprocket from the stock to modified. which is the 17-45. I ride the woods from Blazing to med to road. Now, let me say the upgrade is intense for new riders. Meaning 1st is now about 27 mph. tops as to the stock 10 mph. I am letting you know that the speed is good for me. New at it leave it alone till you find your balance and quickness in handling the bike. Then consider changing it to 17-45. Most important is the range it will do. 5th gear gives road speed 30 mph to 80. Yes I had mine at 80 pegged. A little shy, not to brag. I am now on ride stretch. My first is 5 miles running brand new. Second is 20 miles 3rd is 50 miles. All back roads and trails. Reaching 300 miles good to go the full run. Tweaking is in these stages from out of the box. Adv. ride was yesterday and full of enjoyment. I really like the power range since I changed to 17-45, The Honda clone is a champ engine and tough for what I do with it. I ride now with stable 45 to 70 range with ease. One only Me. LOL I will post more pic's and more great works on this dandy little ground pounder. ------Kimbo

Welcome to the "High Speed on a China Bike" club (70+ mph club... I've reached 83 mph several times on the little 197cc China Bike)... I also like my china bike with "extreme sprocket choices"... like you say... it's probably "not for the novice rider"

A 17t front and 39t rear for most days... those other days ("high wind" or 13,000+ foot Mountain Climbs) I like to use the 43t rear to give me a slightly better 1st gear take off on those mountain hills

I might add the stock chain fits this ratio. I changed mine 5 miles later to a 0-ring from e-bay. 32.00 bucks. Also watch out on tightening the front sprocket. It has small amount of play for the shaft.

I personally prefer a 17 front since most of my riding is on the street, but I understand the 17's do not readily fit the Hawks. Someone would confirm or correct me down in the 'dual-sport' section. If I could only go to a 16, I would probably want a 39. I understand the Hawks take the easy to swap 1980 Honda XL185 rear sprockets. Are the Bashans the same, Azhule, as far as what aftermarket sprockets you find?

500 miles on the Hawk all have been tough and pushed to the limit on the small engine. So far great. As the 17 - 45 ratio gives me a highway speed for interstate 65 all day long. Tops is 80, Bags on my Hawk shown in my album are from ebay saddle bags cut the main strap and modified on the side of the bike. Back bag on the carrier is for mail and gloves and such. 27.00 on ebay. LOL

17 fits fine on the hawk. one person had a funky shaft or something and was having rubbing problems. mine went on with no rubbing and the cover went back on easy you just have to find that one spot that lets it go back on.
