Thanks for your clarity, Spud. Perhaps Fish will see a different result now.

I just did a post on the main RX3 thread about my positive experience chatting with CSC's new Service Manager Gerry Edwards. Fishman10 should probably get in touch with Gerry if he has not already done so.

One comment Fish made about the valve lash piqued my interest. Fish wrote that the valves were screwed down tight. This is unusual, as Gerry told me most folks find at the first adjustment that the valves are quite loose. Mine certainly were.

A chat with Gerry might eliminate the possibility of a misunderstanding in the valve adjustment procedure.

I agree; a call to Gerry is a good idea.

valves

The valves on the intake side where tight,,on mine ,yes i talked to Jerry,,,,, Let me clarify ,,it runs much better as a result of correctly setting the valves,,, I had a 30 year mechanic check my work ,while he happened to be in the shop.I dont think its the valves. OR it would happen regulararily,,,,,not intermitent as it does,,,matter a fact it didnt stall once today,,Except when i start it up ,i always have to refire it,, but out on the road today not once,,,,so i dont know what it could be..i dont get any trouble codes when doing the key switch off on thing..on a side note my oil level appears to be rising again ,,,and this is while bike is on the centerstand and using csc new method of checking.

I don't know what to tell you, Fish. Since I adjusted my valves and got a good battery, my engine ignites with a mere tap of the starter button, and the EFI runs perfectly. What did Gerry tell you?

Jerry

i alreadt stated that csc,, aka,,Jerry told me to run a couple doses of Lucas fuel injector cleaner thru it . I questioned him on doing this an of what help it could be on a new bike with a brand new fuel injector. he also told me to remove the tank an check all the vacuum lines to inure they weren't kinked ,, I've tried everything .

It's a long thread, and I read a lot of them at China Riders.

Thanks for the reminder.

I think G19Tony said his problems disappeared when he switched to a lithium/iron/phosphate (LiFePO4) battery. Do you have a spare battery with which you can experiment?

stalling problem

it is so random,,,one day,,,it stalls 4 times an last 2 times i rode it nothing,, no stalls,,i think its electrical in nature,,,and wondering if riding it with the original battery with 2 dead cells could have messed something up.

I don't think riding with a bad battery will damage the EFI system. Do you have a good, spare battery with which you can experiment?

The XT660s can have stalling issues...
usaly a combination of low idle speed
& TPS setting...

Fishman, I may have missed this in the thread, but what is your idle RPM? Is it steady at idle or does the needle wander a lot?

Maybe not relevant to your issue, but my idle was set at the factory to 1700. Actually, when it first starts, it goes to 1800 for a second, then drops to 1700. But there's so little torque even at 1700, I'd be afraid it would stall if I set it any lower.

Install a 13T C/S sprocket, and the bike will start moving easily in first gear, without stalling. The RX3 is geared too high with the 14T C/S sprocket, except for light riders, and those riding near sea level.

Fish, I think you should install a 13T C/S sprocket from Taobao, and see if the problem either mitigates, or disappears. However, I would experiment by installing a known good battery, first.

stalling issue

Spud ,,mine stalls 90% of the time when coming to a stop ,,,i really do not have a problem ,,staling starting out,,//i would love to install the 13 t,,just for the added power,, but my bike sees some time on the interstate ,where the speeds ate above 70mph,,,an the little motor is already screaming,,wonder how much the rpms would increase at 70,////////,,,,BUT back to the stalling issue ,,,,,,,in the last 3 days it only stalled once ,,,,,and as usual it stalled when coming to a stop ,,pulling the clutch in and rolling off the gas,,,,,
