Actually "dragon" in Mandarin is "long" (with a long "o" sound... similar to "L - oh - nnnng"). I knew my pidgin Mandarin might come in handy one day (outside of a restaurant.) But maybe the anglisized pronunciation of "dragon" become "zong."

Not sure of the relationship of the dragon to the RX series motorcycles from Zongshen, though. Seems Zongshen is relating "Cyclone" as the key word for this series of adventure bikes.

The are many dialects of the Chinese language. I think Zongshen might be translated as "dragon" for the dialect in Chongqing. However, the dragon is a popular symbol which is widely employed in China.

I do know about 8 years ago, Zongshen was using the motto, "be dragonized."

I've got a Chinese wife, so I've got some experience in China and with the language.

Translating Chinese characters requires context to do properly. Regardless of dialect, the characters remain the same. Most times, the definition of the character remains the same, but not always. Most times, the pronunciation of the character will be very different even though the character and the meaning are the same.

宗申 - Expressed in Pinyin, this is zōng shēn.

These are the characters that Zongshen uses on their own web site, so I assume they are correct.

宗 = Ancestor
申 = to state, express, explain

There's no entry in my Chinese dictionary that has these characters together, so to try and get the meaning from literal translation is hopeless.

Cheers,

Dan K.

Congratulations on purchasing your Zongshen RX3. Please post lots of photographs after your new bike arrives.
Arrived last week!
Adventure began immediately.
Truck arrived with only a small Tommy Lift and a hand truck.
There was no way that pallet was going to fit on that lift!
Driver was great and we took the bike out of crate in the truck and rolled it onto the lift. I held it while lowering it to the ground. As it started down it seemed to tilt away from the truck and I was losing my balance. I shouted and the driver grabbed the bike and steadied it. Close call, we were about 3 feet off the ground!
The RX3 exceeded my expectations and all my friends.

One question, anyone else get some backfires when letting off accelerator?
Hoping this will reduce with break-in.

Also, I am not having a problem finding neutral. In fact I found it a couple times when accelerating and shifting from 1st to 2nd.

Thanks for posting the arrival photos.

I occasionally get a small pop from the exhaust during deceleration. These backfires should diminish after engine break-in.

Shift more forcefully from 1st to 2nd gear, and the problem will disappear. This scenario can happen with many motorcycle transmissions.

I've found it nearly impossible to get the transmission into neutral while the bike is sitting still. If I rock it back-and-forth an inch or two, that usually helps. I've gotten in the habit of snicking it into neutral just as I roll to a stop.

Cheers,

Dan K.

Congrats on the new bike!...and that did sound like an adventure unloading it.
To me, mounting the outer bolts/nuts on the windshield was more frustrating than expected, unless I missed the obvious in my haste.

Remove the headlight (just unbolt the two sides allens) and it's a breeze, much simpler than trying to squeeze your fingers and tools in there

Ah yes. Of course, I just put the headlight back in after trouble shooting the blinker and having the whole contraption on my workbench. Slow learner......
Thanks for the heads-up!

Thanks for the advice on the windshield bolts. I was in such a hurry to fire up my new toy that I just left those pesky outside bolts off the windshield until later.

LED trouble light, uses USB port

Here's a tiny yet bright LED light that draws power from a USB port. I'm thinking this will be part of my tool kit for those times I need a light to work on the bike. Oh, and they are CHEAP!
