Ya know, the older we get, birthdays take on a whole new meaning.
When you're young, you can't wait for your birthday because, well....presents!

As we age, the presents mean less and you're just happy to have an excuse to have a few adult beverages with your friends and family and a nice BBQ.

Then, when you get "old", you're just damn glad to make it to yet another one, without major pain or any ER runs.....or breaking your ankle doing something like skating. ;-)

Obviously, whatever presents you may get are nice but generally by now, whatever you may want, you just buy for yourself at any time during the year. Well, this year was different.

I got a call from a sweet lady, who I've been good friends with for years now. "Patrick (her Down's Syndrome son, and the longest-term employee at Burger King, by the way) and I would like to drop by and bring you something for your birthday."

Now THIS was a GREAT present!!! They tag team and do a dynamite Lumpia! She brought me an entire frozen tray of the home made gems and we fried some up last night.
Happy birthday to me!

Happy Birthday!!!!

I hope I never get so old I find myself sitting on my bike and wondering if I was about to go for a ride or just got home.

Happy Birthday!

Look at it as the 26th anniversary of your 39th birthday...

Happy Birthday, Smart ass.

Just hit 68 last Thursday, myself. I still feel like a teenager but in an AARP body.
Those afternoon naps us old farts take aren't wasted on us.

I won’t even try that now. 6 years ago I rode the board down my driveway in 2018 after fifty years off of it. Nope.

Back to your regularly scheduled thread.

Well, Happy Birthday from another 1959 model, I am an 01 build LoL and half mechanical.
I just spent the better part of winter and Spring Festival in China. Now I know what freezing from the inside first feels like.
Not sure what "Lumpia" are but glad it was something you liked.
Yep, your words resonated with me 100%. Presents, as I tell anyone who asks me what I want are a subjective matter. I would much rather just have the time together with a meal.

Thanks! Lumpia a spring roll. Usually longer and skinnier. Same basic ingredients. I can eat 100 of them in a sitting, if I was allowed. ;-)
