Greetings from Redneckville, Alabama...

...actually the small College town of Montevallo, southwest of Birmingham. Many moons ago I had a Flyscooter Il Bello 150 (Aprilia Mojito clone). It was a blast to ride, and easy to work on. Flash forward 12 years and I'm looking at the Honda Grom, but can't justify the price. Having the prior experience with Chinese powersports, I decided to do a clone. I forgot how much fun an ankle nipper can be.

The Boom Vader 125 crowd has come on quite strong, lately, and they seem to come shipped with small issues that need TLC which most members seem to have worked through. However, there are others from SSR, and Ice Bear for more $. The SSR actually beat out the Grom, the Z125 and the K-Pipe in a four way comparison due to price/fun ratio and other criteria.

And the Ice Bears (there are two--one comes customized for your convenience! )

Boom does have another bike which is not shown on their site but a couple retailers carry it--it looks like the SSR Razkull and Ice Bear Little Monster https://www.venommotorsportscanada.c...torcycle-125cc

Here it is called the Lil Duc (this place also carries the Little Monster and the Fuerza

Thanks for the replies, guys I decided to go with Ice Bear Little Monster, in part because it looks like the Ducati, but mainly because it has a metal gas tank that's about 2 pints shy of 3 US gallons. I've had it for almost a month, but didn't get to ride it until last week because bill of sale and title issue kept me from getting it registered at the DMV. I've put about 180 miles on it so far, without incident. I'm on vacation this week so I'm doing performance and visual mods when I'm not riding it.

I have to admit, I like the styling of the SSR and the Lil Duc. I think the Ducati styling is sharp but to be honest, that is probably all that separates these from the Vader. Spec wise, they're all very similar. Unless you get one with EFI, they're all the same.

I like the way the Ice Bear Little Monster looks too. Good choice.

I like the reliability of EFI, especially when riding at freezing temps, but having the ECU professionally remapped, or doing a PC-V after a performance mod is a PITA. That being said, the factory carb was a POS, constantly flooding. I upgraded to a 26mm Mikuni and it's running great.

Sorry, I thought you were still considering one. Where did you purchase the bike from, and what, if any, issues did you have with the Ice Bear as compared to, say, the Vader out of the box? Just to be nosy, how much?

I found an advert for Chinese scooters on Craigslist. I was originally looking for a beater Ford Ranger and made the mistake of looking at motorcycles for sale under $2000. I paid about $1700 for it. Off the bat the inside of the tank was rusted and the sending unit was corroded. The seller sent me replacement parts and I decided to coat the new tank with Caswell tank sealer before installing it. My only real issue with the bike is the reversed shift pattern. I relocated the foot pegs and flipped the shift lever 180 degrees so now it shifts like any other bike.

As requested I really like the overall look of the bike, however given the trim color I think the tank cover lettering should have been red as well.

Looks great. You can always remove the decal and have some made in red like "Lil Monster"

Dood, you gotta be psychic! I've been thinking about doing exactly that. I have some red signing vinyl left over from a decal project and I've been photo shopping "Piccolo Mostro" (Italian for "little monster") on the tank cover.
