How to kill your Hawk (dont do this)

If you look at the bottom of your motor, you may notice four screw holes (the newest 2016 RPS Hawk 250 models no longer have this). This is so you can install a protective plate, using short screws. Never ever try to force a longer object into the hole, as you may penetrate the motor casing. Doing so will void your warranty. Please, don't assemble your own bike unless you really know what you are doing.

The good news is, we can send you a replacement motor for only $500.

Ouch, wasnt planning on it but thanks for the heads up! What was the resulting damage? cracked crankcase?

Good to know. I've actually been eyeing the skid plate from CSC for the TT250, do you know of any other plates that would fit the Hawk and are less expensive?

Not good at all and thanks for the heads-up!...but it begs the question, if a big rock hits your skid plate, why would one want the skid plate bolted to the motor? Wouldn't the ensuing violent bash also transfer that force to the motor case? Both of mine are bolted to the frame. I wonder if those four bolt holes are for mouting the motor to the shipping crate or something for the assembly line?

That could be why its being removed from the newer models.
