How I came to want a Chinabike

I was riding my mountain bike through wheeling and saw one of the Lifans sitting on the sidewalk outside of Wheeling Cycle. I walked up and saw the sticker price was less than $2000.00. Immediately my mind was carried back to 1986 when I lived in Knoxville Tennessee and rode my little Kawasaki 100 dual sport all over the back roads for a summer and part of fall. I think back on those days fondly and when I saw that Lifan sitting there, I knew I wanted one. It is a damned nice looking bike. I want a red one, my Kawasaki was red. I guess I just want to recapture a bit of one of the best summers of my life.

Wheeling is 205 miles from my place. I would love to join you guys for a ride, but that might be a bit far for my butt!

When I first got my chinabike I was always on edge, wondering when it was going to break down & leave me sit along the road. The stories that I read of parts falling off and things breaking had me very wary. After 8 months and 4200 miles I don't even give that stuff a thought anymore. I strap my helmet on & go. I guess what I'm trying to say is that after you have some miles on your bike, and you get familiar with what you need to keep an eye on, you won't want to trailer it, you'll take an extra day & take the scenic route to Wheeling. At least that's what I've been thinking of doing if everyone wants to get together for a ride.

I have done LOOOOOOooong trips on a chinabike, and it wasn't a fancy qlink or Lifan. Over 1000km round trip. I thought I might have to leave it where it died, but it just kept screaming down the road. 8O On a 150cc Xinyue GY. You gotta figure, most have decent engines. The more expensive bikes have a little better built frames brakes and electrics, but most motors are good. No matter which brand you buy. That's what you are buying, the motor. The rest of the bike is just begging for mods. JMO for what it's worth. 8)

Great idea! I'm in! Are we making this a chinabike only ride? Just checking! My X-Ranger should be fixed sometime in late Nov. early Dec. and I'll have the new bigger wheels and tires installed by then too. There will be a short break in the action this week for deer season and the healing of my shoulder!

What about a weekend ride? This could be the first Spring ride of the year. Meaning early Spring! We meet on Friday at a central location for everyone that's interested in going. Then we take off on some dualsport routes and fire roads. Nothing to serious. No interstate! All back roads! It may be better to trailer to a central location or just a great riding area and takeoff on our bikes from there. You want to make sure that you have a way home if something happens. I wouldn't want to inconvience someone to have to come and get me if my bike breaks. I have an enclosed trailer that will hold numerous bikes. Probably eight, maybe more, if we stack them! The trailer is 8'X12' with a loading ramp. It would make a great basecamp (especially if it rains) and we could haul all the spare parts, fuel and camping gear we could ever use. That way if some one needs a rescue and repair it could be easily accomplished without a big hassle. My brother-in-law has a Dodge pickup that would also hold a couple bikes. Check the picture at the bottom of my posts. He'll let me borrow it for a weekend. How many of you are within a drive of WV?

Just throwing some ideas out! We should start a thread in the Ride Suggestions Section.
