lifan 200 gy-5

A local motorcycle dealer in town is selling the Lifan gy-5. I was wondering what all of you think of this bike. He wants around 1700 for it. I am assuming that being a dealer he knows to use locktite and how to properly set up the bike. Is it worth the price to buy this bike from a reputable local dealer already set up vs say buying the same bike for 1300- 1400 from rabbit scooters? any and all advice would be helpful. thx.

From past discussions here, I would not recommend Rabbit Scooters. Not from personal dealings, but people who used them and got a raw deal. Mail order is for someone who really knows what they are doing mechanically. Buying from an authorized American Lifan dealer will help ensure a good buy, and keep it running, plus warranty issues taken care of, at least theoretically; but you have a place and a person to go to, and cuss out, versus trying to file a warranty claim from hundreds or thousands of miles away. I would try to deal the dealer down, but buy from an authorized dealer, somehwhere, if not your local guy.

it's a fair price less than what i paid for mine. ($1975. sticker)

just because you get it from a dealer you still should loc-tite everything.

Hi zapkin

What year is the bike? Where are you located? What is the Dealers name? Is it an American Lifan... or a Grey Market Lifan? Some of these questions can be answered by calling me too, I'm here to help.

Here are some things to think about... Read the posts in the Dealer Discussion link on this forum... one bad one> http://chinariders.net/modules.php?n...ewtopic&t=1865

I have seen a few of The Gray Market Lifan 200GY-5 bikes {2006} engines and e~Bay sold engines Snap the counter-shaft. The shaft snaps in the middle where the gears are in the crankcase. {2006 bikes didn't have the counter-balanced engine.} Not all of them have had this problem and None of the American Lifan bikes have had this problem.
I hope that this helps.

2007 Lifan Gy-5

The local dealer is Wheeling Cycle in Wheeling, West Virginia. The bike is a 2007 with counterbalanced engine. I talked with them yesterday and it seems they want about $2000.00 total after all fees for the bike. They offer a 2 year warranty. This dealer has been in this area for years, so I trust them in that regard. The person on the phone was very helpful and patient with my questions. It just seems to me the 2 grand is a bit much, but what is a few hundred dollars for extra peace of mind. I'm making the purchase in January so I might be able to negotiate a lower price as I would expect that winter is a slow season for motorcycle dealers in the north east. Thanks to all of you for the responses. Take care. PS: any additional help would be appreciated.

In San Diego, I can get the new Qlink XF200 for $2400 OTD, and you could probably get it for about the same in WV (ask member 'XF200' where he got his). I think the 2 year warranty would put them on par in this area with each other, but the Qlink is probably higher in quality overall. Not to put down the Lifan, but rather for your bargaining purposes--two grand is "worth it" if you are willing to pay it, but using the average member here, it seems like there is room for negotiation on the GY-5.
