Well, it took a short trip out and a good walk home and then a little fine tuning of the carb but I think I've managed to get it running right.

Went for a good hour long trip though the woods and it's now starting good and delivering the power. Bogs a bit if you crack the throttle too quick, not sure if I need to richn' or lean it out a tad.

The little motor really turns on in the high RPM, it's going to be fun once it's broken in. and it totally needs a 5th gear lol, I wonder if a smaller XR50 style sprocket should fit?

Sweet bike!

Yes, a Honda style sprocket will do the trick, but it pays to check and measure the stock sprocket first. I use www.jtsprockets.com and compare the specs. BTW, I've had excellent luck with JT sprockets on all of our machines.

Good call on double checking lol.. Looks more like around 50mm eye to eye or 70mm diagonal eye to eye. says nothing on the sprocket either so I'm not sure if it's a 420 or 428. the 125cc is a 428 with the same bolt pattern i think.

I wonder if this is proprietary to GIO or if there is something else that uses this?

Well my X31 250cc is also 428 so the odds are so is your X33.

I'm having my doubts because some of my searching has indicated the Xmotos XTR140 and XB-33 seem to use 420.

is your X31 manufactured by Xmotos?

Yes, it was made by X-Motos, i'll measure it up tonight to see if it matches yours.

How thick is your sprocket? the only difference between 420 and 428 is the width.

Ok, the stock chain on my X31 obviously has a pitch of 1/2" (the 4 from 420 or 428 means four 1/8's), the roller width is .3125" and the roller diamter is .330", i just opened a new box of DID 428D chain and it is exactly the same measurements.

If your chain is 1/2" pitch, .3125" roller diameter and .25" roller width then you do need 420 chain.

Well a vernier caliper will be needed, basically measure the roller diameter, roller width ( i usually measure inbetween the inner links ) and then the pitch, since they go in 1/8"s it pretty easy to tell the difference between 428 ( 1/2" ) and 530 ( 5/8") pitches.

No it's inches, that's why i put the " after my dimensions. Standard roller chain is imperial dimensions hence the pitch measured in 1/8ths and most charts you will find will also give roller diameters and widths in imperial dimensions. If you want my values in MM just times by 25.4.

1/2" pitch is 12.7mm
.330" roller diameter is 8.382mm
.3125" roller width is 7.9375mm

Or hit the "inch/mm" button on your slick digital vernier.

I haven't got a micrometer handy but I just noticed GIO list the chain as "KMC 428-116L"

looks like a 428 to me..

I think the cross bolt measurement on the sprocket is 67mm.. a couple weeks ago I ordered one of those $7 chinese digital vernier calipers.. hopefully it's here soon and i'll know for sure..

edit-- this looks like a close match, http://www.jtsprockets.com/52.0.html...el_uid=5202&p=
