Confirming Rear Tube Size

I went for a pretty short spin in the neighborhood. Got home and realized the rear tire was flat. Fired up my air compressor...no change to tire pressure. I don't notice anything like a nail sticking out of the tire, or any hole.

I was thinking I might need a new rear tube. Is this the right size?

No. You want a 3.50 - 4.10 tube if your rear tire is a 4.10, or the metric equivilent. When you break the tire down look for what the tube is chafing on. Oh, by the way, did you check whether the valve stem is screwed all the way in? Perhaps you will be able to patch the tube until you can get a new one. Look into heavy duty tubes....ARH

Buy the rim strip while your at it. This will help protect the tube.

Will do...bummer that I'm out of commission

Calling for snow again tomorrow too, so maybe it's not so bad. I'm not psyched about having to pull the rear tire off. Should change the chain while I'm at it, or will that be opening a can of worms?

I just rolled over a 1000 miles on mine over the weekend. The thought of all these flats lately kind of has me worried thinking I need to pull and check my tubes. yes it was a nice weekend for riding. Too bad you didn't get much riding in. But you know who put in over 225 miles this weekend? This Guy I know that was just rude.

I think that bicycle rim cloth tape would work on our rims. I liked it much better than the rubber strips. The valve hole is less likely to break with the tape and the adhesive holds it in place. When/if I ever use it I'll report in.

Well Ski_rush put the jinx on me. When I got home last night I was going to take a ride. I went to pull the bike out and that rear tire was flat . I guess I deserve it for making fun at him. Lol I'll have to order a tube and tire spoons. I thought about what Pete said and might just wrap with gorilla tape.

I just ordered Tube and Tire Spoons from Amazon and used the Chinariders Link Program at the bottom of the page. I've been riding over 40 years and this will be the first flat I ever got.

Good that you ordered a new tube. The tubes that come on China Bikes are not very good. Make sure that the spokes are snug, then take out the rim strip and feel to make sure no sharp ends of the spokes are coning through the nipples. File them smooth if necessary. Gorilla Tape has been used sucessfully in stead of rim strips...ARH

Tube and Spoons out for delivery today. To bad I won't be able to do anything till Saturday. They give 70% chance of rain Saturday anyway so it will give me a chance to change the tube and do a much needed oil change for Sunday. Should be clear and warm.

All of my parts should arrive today, including a new tube, spoons, etc. I hope to have some time tomorrow night to install it...I might be messaging you...I've never done this before.

I've been riding over 40 years and this will be the first flat I ever had. I'll just have to think of it as an oversized bicycle tire. lol

I like to cover my tubes with talc (baby powder). Just slop it on and rub it all over. Makes tube install much more gooder.
