I put a 17t on the front shortly after getting the Hawk, and installed the 45t rear after around 700 miles. I really like the taller gearing, the bike is much smoother at lower revs, and is much more pleasant to ride. thinking of going lower on the rear, maybe a 42, curious if the 39 would be too low for occasional off road....

The OEM chain seems to be working fine for me, fwiw...

There is still enough torque with 39t, but I think that you will wear out the clutch a lot faster.
