I have to add about another 20min to the 15min cylinder job due to requiring the engine needing to be tipped forward in the XL185 frame to have enough removal clearance for the head and cylinder...

If the XL185 didn't have on open cradle frame i'd have to remove the whole engine...

Now its a 4 engine mount bolt removal, slacken the back wheel and kick it forwards to slacken the chain, remove the bash plate and support the engine on a jack...

photo observation: Those valve recess cuts are much more pronounced then the cuts on my piston top...Is that for cam duration clearances?

I assume you are talking about the stock piston? I couldn't tell you why they bothered with those fly cuts in the piston being so deep. They are usually included for valve clearances, but they are exceptionally deep, especially considering the piston sits so far down into the cylinder at TDC.

The big bore cylinder has been decked about 2mm and the cutouts are much smaller. Some of that may be due to it being a flat top piston instead of the slight dome the normal pistons come with, but the stock piston dome isn't very pronounced either. Valves still clear without issue with my 292 cam installed.
