125 timing chain

Wanted to confirm my timing while I was checking my valve clearances but can't see any casted in timing marks. Not sure who makes this engine but 124cc is casted into it as the displacement. chain looked good and the mark on the magneto lines up to a dot on the case but that dot is not casted in, it is just a spot with no paint !.
Engine side view:

timing gear - you can see the dot in the gear, but there is nothing on the case to line it up too !

Magneto - you can see the "dot" in this photo:

It's running very badly right now so I'm checking everything step by step. Next I am going to seal the manifold better as I think it might be leaking. We put a larger Carb and exhaust on it and working out the bugs now.

Thanks for the video link.

I actually found that one earlier, being an original Honda engine, it has the timing marks right in the casting and that is what the Chinese motor is lacking.
If you pick one up that is not running and there are no reference marks, I'm not sure how you could confirm the timing. On mine I'm only guessing it's OK as it ran fine with the original carb and exhaust.
There must be another way to confirm if you have no marks.

I can't think of a way to confirm timing with no marks. Odd that they're not cast in.

What size jets are you running in the new carb? What size was in the old one?
