Ah, you have been released from Yuma prison. Didn't hear, that will begin a great new year for you! Is this teaching at a school?

Haven't been released yet--will travel to new school district on Monday to fill out all the paperwork, and then quit prison job. I am supposed to begin January 8th, but that is pushing it a little.

Thumbs Up Good choice BlackBike

I purchased a V-Strom 1000 in 2003, the second year of production, in the bright YELLOW color. Owned and rode it until 2008. I sold it and purchased a BLUE 2008 V-Strom 650. Best decision of my life. The 650 was much, much better in all aspects. Smoother running, fuel injection dialed in, lighter weight, single exhaust, and much better off road.
When I took the 1000 off road it would sometimes take 2 men and a boy to help me get the bike out of deep loose sand! It was more than a handful off road.
You made the right choice in which model of V-Strom to purchase.
Enjoy the ride!

Thanks, been researching for the year and all pointed for ability and value (for what it is, and it's ability) .

Some of the looks are a little lacking but over come in many other respects . It has been described as a little odd ball over the years in the looks department . I have already ordered 500 bucks worth of farkles to alleviate some of those aspects...more to come.

Just changed the oil and looks good so far at 719 miles needs a bath already too

I will be staying with my parents in Northridge and commuting to Palmdale for the rest of the school year. I am not going to look for a place in the high desert if my interview with the L.A. Unified goes well--then I will be looking around the greater L.A. area. Either way, L.A.-ish.

The L.A. Unified School District has a huge turnover of teachers annually. You should be offered several positions. But becareful in what neighborhood your job site will be located.
Good luck!

Bike looks very nice! Looks like the same yellow paint as my 2003 V-Strom 1000. I painted the front fender to match the rest of the bike.

Center stand, and Givi crash bars. As the Brits say... Fitted!

More goodies to come. Peg lowers, and belly pan

Got the pan , and peg lowers on. Pan pretty straight forward but had to use Sid stand hole bolts as part of installation. Those were really tight with some type of yellow thread locker. Had to use lever extension on ratchet. Went back with the blue stuff on all bolts. The peg lowers was a little confusing but figured it out...also lack of lunch probably had a lot to do with it.

Never ends

Now I want the handlebar risers. Ordered that atlas throttle lock and a ram mount for the phone.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B006X387ZS
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01MQE0WQS. Will see if I can make these work for the old saddle bags.

Finished with the farkles I got from Cosmo accessories from the nation of Greece. Took 3 weeks ,1 week delay due to Christmas but very satisfied. Very responsive to my emails. Arrived undamaged. Got at a decent price in so far as Jap big 4 stuff goes ( knew what I was getting into after leaving china)
The result, tested today before the cold arrives again tomorrow. Blasted around local roads and got the brake and shifter linkages right the first time. Peg lowers are a dream with about 1 inch lower. Can stand with no hunch back. Heard no rattles , and no whistling sounds. I think it looks much better...should have been included in the first place but you know how it goes $$$.

May drill a hole for oil drain. I can access the filter from the left side without pan removal. Will see nextime oil change.

Happy 2018 to all. It's been a great 2017
