Balancing

Finally I've set the proper counterbalance weight at the front rim.

I've found the self-adhesive lead bars specifically made for motorcycles, but the smallest quantity was a 50pcs bag, USD43. With that money here could buy 5lts of Motul 5100 oil, and don't like to save that bunch of lead stuff when only needed a single chunk of a stripe.

So... gone through the "China Rider" spirit : grabbed a bunch of used airgun pellets from my backyard, melted them and got a 16x3mm bar: chopped it until reach piece with the required weight (35g on this case), covered it with shrink tube, added 3M adhesive foam, and presto!

Maybe tomorrow will have the chance to ride the bike and see if my "China Rider Balancer" worth the money (unp aid).

I probably would have bought the lifetime supply of weights, BUT if I wanted to follow in your footsteps I probably would have melted some pennies. Yea zinc is not as dense but I don't have any lead in my house, and lots of pennies.

ElectricCircus , what is the purpose of the shrink tubing? Kinda looks like you used a Tootsie Roll left out in the sun. Couldn't you just sticky tape the lead weight and be even more China Rider worthy? rj

Well I actually did this Sunday, but I changed the oil at 7750 miles. I also found that I had lost a valve cover bolt on the exhaust cover. Fortunately the other bolt was torqued up tight and the valve cover didn't move. I had a metric bolt the correct length and pitch so I was able to slap the covers back on after I checked the valves. All four were at .08mm right where i left them when I last adjusted them at about 5000 miles. Unfortunately I may have damaged the wire from the fuel gauge when I put the tank back on. The screen was still showing empty when I filled the bike up after the work was finished. I want to burn off most of this tank before I try to remove the tank to check and hopefully fix the issue.

It's just weird that after all the RX3's...and all the miles and time, that this just now showed up on a couple bikes.

My gut feeling is we all need to pay more attention and check and recheck that we tightened all the bolts we've loosened after working on our bikes. As they come from the factory, most bolts on my RX3 were way too tight .
Also when working on bikes remember it's our life on the line so take the ear buds out, booze back in the fridge and PAY ATTENTION to what we are doing.
I'm observing young folks who are clueless as to what is going on around them , college students walking right out into traffic or walking into sign posts clueless as to the world around them while texting, or listening to tunes.

Just saying, I turned 60 last week so how was that for a old man speech? rj

Peter, it's a little late for me, now that the horse is out of the barn.

But you shamed me into it.

Couldn't argue about how $5 in locking washers might have saved me from an engine rebuild.

Well, maybe it was more than $5.

Had to buy 25 for $28 US

And be looking for silver bits in between the bolt threads.

That is a sign the the threaded hole will soon be stripped:

I have seen this on several bolts, but did not pay attention to it until the hole was stripped.

It may be that it will show up over time.

I have done 9 valve adjustments. That is 9 times that the valve cover bolts have been removed and re-tightened.

See the bolt picture above.

I saw the same silver bits in the valve cover bolt threads, but didn't think anything of it at the time.

Baffle Work

Replaced the restrictive block on the end of the baffle with stainless screen. This should help breathing and still pass the Rangers coat hanger test for a spark arrestor.
