I explained everything to her tonight over the phone. I've been watching this bike since they were introduced. I told her that I have saved money for this for two years (that is the truth).

She was concerned that it was going to affect our new construction. I told her it was not. I personally think she was more upset about the fact that it was sitting there for two days and she never noticed it.

I did explain how little it cost and why I pulled the trigger when I did. I never hide anything from her. I just do it and see how long it takes her to figure it out.

It's all good. I would never go out and drop 20K on a new BMW GS1200 Adventure and not tell her. That is a whole different ball game.

We accept your confession, now go fourth and ride.

I got home from Nebraska today. Ran downstairs to my basement and found my big box that my wife didn't notice for three days.

I took the side panel off and the bike looks great. I could not find my top box. I upgraded to the aluminum luggage and I cannot find my hand guards.

Does the top box get shipped separately?
Did they forget my hand guards?

Also - what is the best way to take the bike off the pallet?

Thanks.

My aluminum top box was in the crate. The handguards were inside it.
I just built a little ramp from a couple pieces of wood and rolled it off to the front.

Myself, it was start the engine & warm it up about four minutes.
First gear, 6,500 rpm, drop the clutch. Came right off the pallet as well as the delivery truck.

New wife was cheering me on, waving the life insurance policy.

Bike off loaded from pallet. I spoke to CSC about my missing items. It appears the shipper forgot to leave my top box.

Based upon their previous level of 'service,' I wouldn't be surprised if the shipper crushed it.

Needless to say, I'm glad CSC rendered excellent customer service, as I knew they would.

Bike fired right up. Not a scratch on it. It will be Friday before I can register it. I rolled out of Nebraska to St Louis. I was at home for a few hours.

I am really impressed with the quality. I'll probably never see the dirt with this one. I have my TW200 for that.

My anal side wants to correct the speedometer issues. My V-Strom had the same issues. I think I can live with it.

I really like my SpeedoDRD; it is very accurate. I consider the price of this unit an excellent, long-term investment in the motorcycle.

That looks like mine. I am hoping to register it tomorrow.

CSC is following up with the shipping company to find my top box and tank bag. They did say they would ship a new one of each if the shipping company cannot find them.

Initial thoughts . . .

500 miles later . . .

I absolutely love this motorcycle! It is surprisingly FUN to ride! Lots of looks from people trying to figure out what the hell it is

So far:
The seat sucks. Like - ALOT. I'm 5'11" 190 lbs . . . so, not really a big guy . . . but, not a small guy either. After an hour or two of riding. OUCH. Definitely upgrading.

False neutral between 5th and 6th . . . I get it about 60% of the time.

Finding the actual neutral . . . basically what I spend most of the time doing at stop lights and then the light changes right when I find it.

Seat issue aside, it is incredibly comfortable to ride. Very well balanced. Standing and riding off road feels natural (I've never ridden dirt or off road).

Took a spill in some sand and the engine guards did their job very well (glad I took my panniers off that morning!). Got that "first drop" out of the way

It's WAY louder than I expected. This was calmed a bit when I took my boxes off. Not necessarily a good or bad thing . . . just an observation.

Had to work all weekend, so not much riding. But, I managed to get through the 500 mile break-in in about 3 days . . . so, I'm already anticipating putting some serious miles on this thing. I'll be doing the first service on it tomorrow afternoon and hopefully a long-ish overnight trip Saturday.
