Kudos to Mudflap regarding the high buck NAPA filter I used for the conversion. I couldn't make it leak but I walked into the garage for the first time in a week and thought someone moved the Maggot to where a Hardly had been parked. A good sized puddle of Rotella T was directly beneath the filter. I cleaned it up, wiped down the engine, and put a white rag beneath the engine to double check. Then ran errands in the Jeep.

Sure enough, the oil was still leaking. So, I pulled the NAPA filter and compared the distance from the face of the gasket to the face of the threaded hole on both the NAPA and a Fram PH9100(Both interchangeable). The measured distance on the NAPA was .119". The Fram measured .235". I got .122" when I measured the seat to bung distance on the engine. No way will the NAPA filter ever seal.

Live and learn.

That's a shame, since the Napa Gold filters are excellent quality. Do you have another alternative to Fram?

Woohoo. December 26th and it was nice enough for a ride to work. First ride with new front fender and big oil filter. Needed to adjust the fender where the tire was rubbing and noticed that it takes a few more minutes to get to operating temperature. Only bad part of the ride was getting to work and finding the right side CX500 badge missing from the side cover.

Good part was find the missing badge on the garage floor, next to where I park the bike. Phew!

There was some CX loot for Christmas, too.

Haven't had a chance to look at the book yet, reading Michners' 'Space' at the moment and Kerouacs' 'On the Road' is on deck. The little silver bell is supposedly a 'Motorcycle Good Luck Charm'. I'd never heard of it either, but I was looking at an article about changing out the waterpump on a GL1000 and there was the little bell hanging from the engine. The knee, elbow, and wrist pads are from my youngest, who says I'm just too old to fall down on the rink without some kind of padding. And here I thought overweight was padding.

Well, just an update. Hope everyone had a good holiday and the snow stays away a bit longer.

Those are nice gifts.

What do you think happened to the badge? Did if fall off, or did someone steal it?

Spud-I think it had been knocked off once before, pre cheesy, and was glued back on. I'm guessing that I brushed against it in the garage and knocked it off. I sure was glad to see the badge sitting on the floor when I got home.

I'm glad you found it. A little super glue should fix it permanently.

There is an adhesive made for gluing badges to car bodies that works great. NAPA sells it. Once glued in place it'll never come off.

That is a very good information. If you have time, will you please post a link to that adhesive?

That's what I was thinking. That, or the double sticky sided rubber stuff. I remember the stuff that was on the back of the old American Motors badges being some tough stuff. I have one of each of those with the old and new logos(new being 45 years ago) stuck on my old skate case and they're still ain't moving.

All better now.

I used some Sooper Dooper double sided sticky tape that does not allow for mistakes in alignment. Took a good dose of single malt to steady my hand to line it up correctly.

A quality IPA will also do the trick.

Yes, but I had none.

As the Fox River Valley is facing it's own Snowmaggeden today, while suffering through the Superb Owl, I will most likely spend today, Sunday, making an attempt to finish the wiring of the new toys on the Maggot. That is until the expected nosedive in temps later this evening.
