Lifan acquired in 2022
Curious as to what 2024 offerings might be coming from Lifan (and Venom?), I discovered (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geely) that in 2022 Lifan was acquired by Geely.
https://zgh.com/?lang=en I noticed that Volvo & Lotus, owned by Lifan, appear at the bottom of the Geely home webpage. I noticed that Benelli (designed in Italy, but made in China?) is among the Geely subsidiaries. I saw no mention of Lifan ... or motorcycles (other than Benelli) in the Geely product offerings! What does/will this mean to/for Venom product offerings? I'm curious: Is there another (alternative) US-China-bike distributor equal in reputation & service to Venom? |

There's OJTEC SRT 800 CX https://www.americanlifan.com/ojtec-srt-800-cx/ and MOTOBI SRT 800BX https://www.americanlifan.com/motobi-srt-800bx/ Which are already being sold threw dealerships in the US. More than likely these will be sold through Brick and mortar dealerships and not shipped in a in a crate to your door steps

OK, so am I naive is asking this... Why would Lifan go away?
Corporate acquisitions are usually done because the acquired brand is profitable and perceived as well managed or salvageable with layoffs. Or, the buyers want the manufacturing facilities. But how can Lifan's resources be big enough or convertable to making something else? Sometimes the reason is to kill the brand, but in this case, why? It's not like Geely has another player to take over the market. Aside from Benelli, those brands are cars, not motorcycles, and Benelli doesn't have any USA presence.

You may have answered your own question? I have no inside knowledge regarding Geely goals/plans. They may be car-focused (not motorcycle-focused)? ... maybe they just acquired Lifan to get Volvo (and Lotus)? It looks like they plan on growth through acquisition? Why is there so little focus on motorcycles among some revered Japanese brands (Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki)? ... because motorcycles are barely an asterisk in their revenue streams? Who's doing the motorcycle innovating these days? ... the smaller firms, focused SOLELY on motorcycles, like Royal Enfield, KTM, CFMoto etc. Last edited by Discoveror; 11-14-2023 at 11:13 AM. |
