That's a great price without the $5/gallon rebate. Where did you get it?

Personally, I'm a big fan of synthetic 10w-40 Racing 4T motorcycle oil.
  • AMSoil
  • Mobil1
  • Castrol

Even my wife noticed the difference between the Castrol and the AMSoil I put in her bike last time ... quieter, smoother shifting, better mpg. But it costs more, so there's that.

I've tried Rotella T and T6 in my Vstrom, but they seemed to gum up the shifting and I didn't like it. I drained them each early and then switched to Mobil1 4T. Much better. AMSoil was even smoother
Oil is a funny topic.
I've run Rotella T synthetic for over 200,000 miles in my SV and it's basically the same motor. Shifts like butter.

That's the whole point. Every motor is different, so people should try different motor oils, and see which one they like.

People report good results with many different brands of motor oil, because there are very few bad motor oils for sale. Engine oil technology has advanced immensely over the last decade or so.

Give your motor a chance to bed in its parts and use Dino oil for your 200 (and 500 if you choose to change oil then) mile service. At 1000 miles you can switch to synthetic. Enjoy your RX-3

Not really ... but I'll add if your oil has a JASO-MA or JASO-MA2 rating on the bottle, it is absolutely safe for the RX3. I would bet that the Valvoline oil you found at walmart has a JASO rating on the back.

Some motorcycle oils say 'Racing 4T'. They have additives for high performance under heat and harsh conditions and are a good choice.

Many diesel oils don't have a JASO rating, but are also safe for our clutches. Many riders here like Rotella T and Rotella T6 diesel oil that you can get at walmart.
I second what Detours said...Rotella is a popular one and I actually noticed a huge difference in my RX-3 when I switched from valvoline to the Rotella diesel 15w40. I usually run the Rotella in all my bikes but didnt have any on hand when doing first oil change, so went with Valvoline and wasnt impressed with the difference. Ran it for a bit and then went bought some Rotella and RX3 shifts much smoother now and I think runs quieter too. Great oil.

It is what the local NAPA charged me, we have a company account. They said the deal was better if I wanted a 5 gal. bucket. I ordered 1 gal. delivered they accidentally sent 2, so I kept them both.

SpudRider, Detours, AZRider, Danimal and in case i missed someone (getting old, memory fails me at times)

THANK YOU ALL for the clarifications & sharing your personal experiences and especially Spud, for the video link and the detailed oil type/classification info/breakdown.

Was in the local neighborhood walmart and passed by the tiny automotive section, this is the only oil they had. Will go to the superstore on the weekend with a list of what you guys are using and pick up some oil.
I see that the 2nd pic (i.e. the back) does NOT have the Energy Conserving mark, that Spud pointed out, not to use.

Ps: A guy working at the local motor cycle accessory store plans to get 20+ of the 2016 RX3s and TT250s - to sell locally and set up a service center for these bikes. Wondering if CSC guys are going to add this route to their business model. The more the merrier i guess
If that does happen, i guess, we will be famous for being the state/city with the most RX3s+TT250. Errr besides being famous for Dorothy and tornadoes

Why go to another store? This is good oil to use. It is JASO-MA rated.

(clarification of the double negative: If the oil has the Energy Conserving mark - do not use it in your motorcycle.)

You're welcome! Btw the Rotella T in your pic is JASO-MA approved and perfectly safe for your bike (though not my preference).
