Just picked up two 1971 CT90s. CT140 Time?

I just got home from Nashville. Picked up two honda CT90s today. Most of the parts there on onee the other is a rolling frame.

My plan is to build one with a lifan 125-140cc engine and set it up for pure street use.

That doesn't seem like a bad idea. How much did you get them for? And what about a title for the street legal one?

I got both of them for $140. No title needed on this old of bike in GA, just of bill of sale which I got for each.

I am estimating it will cost about $500 to make one road ready with a new engine installed and other new parts.

I have to inspect that current engine to see what it needs. May have to rebuild it.

I am trying to decide on a color to paint the one I plan to restomod into a street cruiser.

I believe the bike with the engine in it is the better starting point. I plan to strip it down to the frame and build it up from there.

Nice enough that it will look good and match the a new shiny engine.

Colors so far that I have thought of are flat black, stock red, yellow?, (IH Cub Cadet paint)

I am leaning toward the flat black so that touch up will be easily and with the amount of stock chrome it should look good. I think I can polish up the chrome.

Plan is to get a 125-140cc, convert to 12volt system, Update the lighting, street tires and gearing, and try to salvage that stock exhaust so I don't wake the neighbors.

I will probably need new cables, a clutch lever setup, led taillight and signals, 12 volt headlight.

This should be a good project. Might take all summer.

Oh yeh

Oh yeh,
good little project for you . And yes, it will take all Summer
Black would be awsome cool looking, would match the motor if you get the new one .
I would go with a big fat pipe for the 125cc pit-bikes though . Loud Pipes save lives, yours To heck with your neighbors, they won't be the ones running you over on the street when they can't here that quiet engine . Although it looks like your stock exhaust is in good shape as it is with a little ( Allot ) of pollishing . Take out the baffle and save your hind end . That bike is mighty small , and cars will eat you alive if they don't hear or see you .
Looks like fun though, enjoy it .

Cheers, Kelly

Go Gloss Black... PJ1 Gloss Black Paint will look Great on that bike and it will dry so hard it will chip before it scratches. I swear by their paints, they are expensive for a spray can but if you shake the crap out of the can and keep it at about 12" away you will have a Pro looking paint job.
I have a Stock Aftermarket Straight Exhaust that was for an ol Honda S-90 made by MC Products. The only problem with it is it won't fit in a Loncin 125cc head. It could be made to fit easily enough.
Don't forget you will need to lengthen the wiring harness you get. That bike should do Wheelies all day with a 125 or 140 engine in it!!!!!!!

Bruce, I will have to look up that paint. The DR250 may go by the wayside for now since I got these.

I already planned a new wiring harness since the stockers are alittle rough looking.

Kelly, that stock pipe looks good from this side. The whole muffler is rotted away on the bottom side. I may use a 125 muffler since I am not trying to go stock.

I think I will start the disassembly this week and picking out the best parts.

I may try to put two together and sell one.

katoranger, nice choice with Honda. I rode a 110cc in Penang, Malaysia where they still are sold new for about $900-$1100. The street bikes are all painted black over there, and have the 4 speed semi-auto gears. With their low gas prices ($1.60/gal when I was there, $2 now) I rode 75 miles for 75 cents.

you surely have a project on your hands. good luck, and keep posting pictures.

Well the project has started with some tear down of the bike that I will use the frame from. I had one of my helpers out there today. We got the some of the parts off. This will be a project. The wiring is in good shape still. It just looked bad.

This bike also has the high altitude carb on it.

There is alot of rust on the rear axle and some of the brake parts. The cables are shot.

The plan is to use a manual shift, but it a sem-auto comes by cheap I will use it.

Kelly, I think I am going to use a 125 pipe for it. Might be able to use alittle more packing in the muffler.
