GM Baojun E100: for China only

GM is selling the Baogin E100 e-car in China for around $5,500 USD.
-Why don't they sell the E100 in our crowded cities? It would certainly sell better than the $30,000 e-cars we see at our local dealers.
-Its like having an all weather 150cc scooter, IMHO. Not suitable for the open highway, but plenty fast for urban rush hour combat. More at the link.

GM has proven their battery technology in the Volt and Bolts here in the US. That article doesn't state whether or not that Baojun uses an active battery cooling system, but at that price it would be surprising.

The Cazador uses Lead acid, so it's pretty old technology and proven, but it really limits the life of the vehicle.

This is coming from an early adopter of EVs- I own 2 currently and have sold one. My car has over 82K EV miles and 106k total.

Used Volts are a bargain around here, especially with our low electricity prices. I've seen many sell locally for around $8k.

ZEV makes a similar 3 wheel micro car in West Virginia but it will only do 30 mph. I guess having only 3 wheels exempts the ZEV from those crash standards.
Unfortunately, it will sell for over 9 grand with lithium batteries.

I have considered the Nissan Leaf for commuting. Its range is plenty far for what I need. Most of my days I drive about 45 miles in my personal car. Work trucks are a bit different. 150-200 miles on those.

They are great little cars. Fun to drive and very roomy inside. We had a 2012 for a while. Then we moved and the range was no longer enough for the wife's commute+errands so she bought a Volt and sold the car to my Son. It fits his needs perfectly.

I hear ya on the trucks. Mine doesn't really move unless we need to pull a trailer. too $$$

My daughter has a 2013 Leaf. These are a redesign from the 2012, so if you are looking around keep in mind that they made a lot of improvements in the '13 and up. Hard to beat the low cost/low fuel and near zero maintenance of these.

My commute is about 18 miles each way only the highway. No lights and only one stop sign on the way there. Only three stop signs on the way home. I could probably charge it at work also. Once I am at the office I use one of the trucks. I have a 2013 silverado there.

Here is an interesting prototype enclosed trike from PSA Group. It is a hybrid petro-electric vehicle.
-Why would PSA Group utilize the more mechanically complex hybrid drive train? Speed!
-It will do 43mph on the electric motor only. It can top 80mph on combined petro and electric power.

The Arcimoto is all electric and they claim deliveries will begin in the first quarter of 2018.
-Base price of $11,900 (US). Claimed top speed of 80 mph.
-Doors are optional, and most states will likely require you to ride a helmet.
