indicator lights...pretty dim

Maybe I have a problem, maybe not. The various indicator lights on the dash are virtually non existent in any kind of light. This means the turn signals, high beam and who knows what else. None of them are bright enough to see in daylight. I can live with this but if there is a solution I'm all ears. Could I have disabled a ground when I installed the windscreen?

Does it have Glass fuses?

Had dim looking lights on a '99 KLR650 and also the Bashan BS200GY-9 I recently received, replacing the Glass fuses with ATC/ATO fuses fixed it... don't know if the same applies to your situation/bikes but it might be something to look into

You didn't disable a ground connection, or do anything else wrong, Peter.

If the LED lights are colored, and not white, here is a possible solution.

The indicator lights on the right of the dashboard are covered with a film which contains silhouettes for the turn signal arrows, et cetera. If you remove that piece of film, the indicator lights should be much brighter. You will lose the symbols, but we know the colors for each symbol, so the symbols aren't really necessary.

Top Green: Turn Signals
Blue: High Beam Indicator
Yellow: Low Fuel Warning
Bottom Green: Neutral
Red: Engine Warning Light, DTC Indicator

Unfortunately they are low output LEDs. Unless you are proficient at neurosurgery and can do a transplant, one just has to live with them.
I have developed the habit of looking at the top edge of my turn flasher to see it it/they are on. The rest I don't really pay attention to, and I'm actually glad the Low Fuel flashy thing isn't too visible. I can see the blinking bar just fine on the fuel gage.
