I need a cdi for a new bike. Boom manufacturer

Dealer is saying they can’t find it and the manufacturer is saying they don’t deal with customers directly.

You think a bd-250-5 cdi would work in a bd250-2?

We would need to identify if it is an AC or DC cdi. Have a picture of it and of the wiring and plugs?

Yeah it’s a Delphi apparently.

There was a typo in the model numbers. Their whole bd-250-1 thru bd-250-11+ use the same engine so I don’t see why the cdi box would vary much. They also look very similar.

If it is a DC type CDI, then one of the wires will be powered with 12VDC when you turn on the ignition.

AC types rely on AC power from the stator produced when kicked over.

You can unplug the connector for this test. Very simple with a multimeter on each wire, one at a time, on the wire side (not the CDI) when disconnected. Black wire from the multimeter needs to go to ground (engine, frame, or battery). Red multimeter lead to one wire on the connector (at a time). See if any of them gets 12V when you turn the ignition on. Voltage amount should be the same as what you get on the battery itself (maybe 12.7 VDC, for instance).

It is described in the Templar resource guide in post #9.

Presumably, the input power lead on the incoming wire will get AC voltage when the engine is cranked. I haven't tested this myself, but that's my guess. Dirtbkr188 is good with this. Maybe ask him via a pm

I didn't realize his bike was EFI. That's a Delphi MT05 ECU.

I find it funny that we have been told many times around here that nothing goes wrong with the efi bikes yet here we go once again !
Have you told the seller you want to return the bike yet ? They might find you a solution much quicker .
Hopefully you didn’t purchase from a Manny dealership .

Warranty was either 30 or 90 days and covered parts only. I bought it aboutb6 months ago.

ECU or CDI? Is this good news?

That's an ECU. Any of the ECU's from there other 250cc bikes should work. There's all the same engine.

It’s an ECU and I would say it’s worse as it will need to be a lot more specific to your bike ,and will be more expensive .That unit pretty much runs all your fuel injection and spark .

Hopefully that ECU is in fact the problem, and some other failed component didn't kill it (short in a sensor, etc).

Dallas power sports. Their “parts department “ is the guy across the street at NtX power sports. And they’re both owned by Paradise, LLC. I’m pretty sure that guy is a liar too and just wanted to force me into taking it to them for service. Alll he has to do is call Boom at 8009163381, identify himself as a dealer and ask for the part. I even sent a picture of it complete with bar codes and qr codes.

I have never heard of Dallas Motor sports ,but with the location I figured it might be our old lizard Manny once again ,I checked the reviews and I really think it is Manny ,just reading the bad reviews gives me warm and fuzzy feelings .
I do hope I am wrong .
