I'm fascinated by those Urals. Most folks dig the sidecar action but I think I'd like the Solo (?) that has no 'car.

Been watching them since they started showing up in bike shows in the 90s.

Son of Weldangrind and I have tossed around the idea of getting a couple of CJ's without the sidecar. That said, the hack has a certain appeal, and it holds lots of camping gear.

I use the side car like most would a pickup truck, it can haul 8 bags of wood pellets and a 5 gal. bucket of paint at the same time. Winter camping I put a large canvas tent, wood stove, fire wood, cooler, sleeping cot, bag chair, food, coleman stove, coleman stove stand, and all the normal needs for a weeks camping trip. When I camp on two wheels I do not do so in the comfort to which I have with the 3 wheeled rig.

That is the very reason I'd own one.

Now I'm coming up with silly ideas about building a hack for Lifanda.

It is my Lifan dual sport (which uses some Lifan and some Honda parts), named for LaFawnduh, Kip's girlfriend in the movie Napolean Dynamite.

Read about Lifanda here: http://www.chinariders.net/showthread.php?t=12512

Keith, I've done some reading on hacks over the weekend, so I'm quite interested to see how yours is attached to the Ural. I'd like to get a sense of the hack wheel lead and toe-in, as well as the steering rake.

I'm going to enjoy this thread.

I was busy getting the tractors ready for winter snow this past weekend but I promise to get some good photos for you this week on the bike layout and I will be removing the tub so you will get a view of the side car frame setup.

Weld, you have to keep in mind that the Urals, Dneprs, etc. are built as sidecar units and the frames made for them to be used as a unit. The Solo Urals have slightly different geometry.

I have found the Velorex importer very helpful for adaptations to various bikes. They have a good instructional pdf, also. http://www.velorexusa.com/

Looks like a beautiful bike. Like most everyone here I'm intrigued by the Urals also. Simple, repairable, functional, and filled with enough quirks to make it interesting.

I'm at a stage in life (51) where speed and power are not my focus, what I'm looking for in a bike is to be interesting. This explains my Royal Enfield, which can be thought of as an Indian Chinabike.

Have a great day and thanks for sharing.

keithmaine,
Know you from Soviet Steeds. I'll enjoy your rebuild from here and there.
Didn't see this in your list so excuse me if I missed it. From Troy Bennett.

My 2015 Ural cT. I had a 2012 Ural Yamal which was two wheel drive but didn't really need the 2WD.
