If it helps, I just bought my Hawk 250 in July, and I love it. If I had it to do over again, and a little more money, I would go with the Lifan KPX 250, hands down.

Its looking more like its going to be a Lifan. Unless I can pony up a few more dollars and go for the KAYO.

Urgh. So frustrating. There are numerous China Bikes right now on FB Marketplace near me. All under 2000.

Bashan Raven 250
TBR 7 ( only $700!)
Orion 250
Hawk DLX

What to do! Some of them are tempting, as I could probably get them even lower. But then theres the "Im not going to be able to fix major issues" with them thing :-)

What about the XPECT? Its a ( little ) cheaper, less power. As a first time rider might be all I need. Plus, only commuting on back roads...

Aside from which bike, I would also highly recommend finding as much online training as you can for road strategy, if not in-person training. DanDanTheFireman, Motojitsu, and MCRider are all fantastic places to start, and are loaded with drills and exercises focused on beginner and novice riders. DDFM has hundreds of videos from the compilation channels where he shows clips of riders doing something wrong or doing something right, and will break them all down to figure out exactly what happened and why. E.g., you see an "open lane pattern" about 600 times in videos, and you'll instinctively be ready for that car to jump into your lane in real life.

TominMO would be the best person to ask as he has owned both the Xpect and KPX. Read through some of his threads. I know he has compared the two bikes.

You know what, I was watching a Youtube video about one of the name-brand Japan dual sports. Someone actually commented that the KPX250 was a better bike! I think I'm convinced! Now to go find one to look at in person :-)

I know when I received my KPX, It turned out to be way more bike than I expected. At least you have the option to go actually sit on one before buying.

you could check with the shop and see if you can source it 3rd party and have them assemble/test/upgrade it for you...

Winter is coming on. See if you can place a deposit on, and order one. You could also contact Lifan and see if they can help you through the dealership.

I'd go through the dealership first.

I noticed Venom Has a Black Friday Discount Code for $100 off. "VMBF100". They do offer assembly. They don't just slap the bike together. The bike goes through three processes. First the bike is assembled. Next the shop tech goes through and checks every bolt and screw. Lastly, the bike is fueled up and taken on a test ride to make sure everything is working properly.
