Without actually running the numbers I venture to guess that the holes in total give more than 300% area than the i.d. of the pipe, so not really restricted even with the plug.

That's good for an extra 5hp/5mph.

2LZ, you mention opening up the intake tract...notice that Gerry at CSC opened up the intake ports on the head for their race bike. I can see where such a mod would help at high rpm, not sure it's all that important at lower revs. I wonder if CSC ran the bike on a dyno to get firm before and after numbers.

You're correct. Free flowing ports will help with top end provided that the carb and airbox can flow enough air/fuel. How much power would it give the RX3, maybe a couple HP but not enough to notice without addition work.

More pulling power (grunt) at low rpm will require a cam grind suited for that, likely at a sacrifice of high rpm power.

A modest gain in low rpm output can be gained by advancing the stock cam a few degrees, if you're willing to do the modifications.

As Peter and Ben said, flow improvements either upstream or downstream don't impact lower speeds.

These things are lame at lower R's anyway, oddly so really.

General breathing improvements will help across all rpm's....though as you state, really opening up the breathing like Gerry did to the race bike will improve higher R's. I all but ruined the low end grunt on my Husqvarna when I ported the crap out of it. It made it a rocket "on the pipe" when out on the track, but I ruined what little trail riding ability it had. Now that I'm older, I wish I wouldn't have gone so radical with it.

The biggest problem we have with "our version" of these bikes is that it doesn't really matter what we do, we're basically stuck with the injection mapping and predetermined timing curve. The sensors can adjust only so far. It would be neat to get a carb version and then start to play.

My attempt to help breathing isn't to make it a fire breather, it's just to help make what we have a little more efficient. It's all just in "good fun" really. I can't help but tinker. It's how I'm programmed. The upside is if it makes little to no difference, I'll just toss a stock pipe back on it and call it a day.

started getting it ready for its first camping trip. Bike has started acting up... hit a bump and it would die and dash would go blank. Finally traced it to the ignition switch. while it was running you could barley tap the key with your finger and the bike die and dash would go blank. turn the key off and back on start right up tap the key and it would die and go blank again. Called CSC and their shipping a new switch out today under warranty! got to love their exceptional quality service!

Did you try to spray and WD-40 in there to see if some dirt was causing an issue?

yep, just a bad switch. Said they had 1 or 2 do that before. only thing is ill have a seperate key for the ignition now but thats no problem.
