I know what you mean about the heavy duty tubes. I was riding with a buddy this past weekend, and he picked up a drywall screw in the rear of the DR. It took us almost 45 minutes to get the tire opened up and the tube out of the rim. Really heavy construction, nice thick walls on those tubes. We found the hole, threw a patch at it, and once it was dry we put everything back together. That was a week ago, and I've ridden the DR twice since then with no issues. Those heavy duty tubes are worth their weight in gold. I'm actually thinking about throwing a couple ounces of slime tire sealant in all the tires, just as a little cheap insurance. Glad you came through it with nothing more than an unexpected dry cleaning bill.

First time Arpok has ever been on a trailer under my watch. The only reasons it’s on the trailer is I flatted less than four miles from home, it was ungodly hot, and I didn’t feel like working on the uphill side of a ditch. I also found the broken board on the trailer.
I can top that. Here...hold my beer.

took the sidecar rig, a friend as passenger, and my trailer loaded with coolers full of water over to Raleigh to attend a protest. on the way back the motor starts making hellacious noise. It's shot. No idea yet what the problem is because I've been sitting with my mom in ICU since Sunday when I woke up.

I decided I wasn’t going to work on the Diesel Project today. It was deemed a goof off day.

I rode the Ural to my weekend morning fishing spot. Fishing was ‘meh’. Caught a 1 1/2 lb smallie early on and that was it. Took the long way into town and got stuck by a UP train stopped on the tracks, so I scoped out the local coffee shop. It ain’t the The Uncommon Grounds at the old place but it’ll have to do. Ran a couple errands on ARPOK and was done by 11.

Decided to run the cobwebs off both the Solexes for fun. I must have put ten miles on the yellow V3. Ran out of gas, too.

So, we have the youngest grandson, Owen, with us today. I’m gassing up the black Solex when Owen and Mrs. C come out to the garage. Grandma says Owen wants to ride the scooter. So I point to the black Solex and ask “This one?” Owen shakes his head no and pats the rear fender of ARPOK. Owen has never flown solo in the sidecar, so today was the day.
Got his bucket on and told him his job, besides keeping his butt on the seat, was to wave to people we passed. We did a slow ride through the subdivision to see how he’d do. He passed. As we were heading back to the house, we spotted Grandma taking a video of us coming down the street. Owen was ecstatic. I started to get him out of the sidecar and Grandma asks if he’d like to go on a longer ride and stop for ice cream. I didn’t think he’d say no. Off we went. Basically rode my 15 mile ‘Go Fishing’ route that’s a mix of gravel roads and quiet farm roads.

Owen is having a blast. He’s pointing out farm critters, tractors, combines, barns and what not with a big smile of his face. He gets quiet just before we get into town and when I pull into the little ice cream place, he is zonked.

I knock on his helmet and go, “Owen? Do you want ice cream? Owen? Ice cream.” At first he said no, then he woke up and I couldn’t get his helmet off him fast enough.

So, here’s Owen shoving a small ice cream cone in his face.

And, pictures or it didn’t happen, here’s the small mouth.

Nice! The mutant isn't quite old enough for anything more than a few of the side streets here in the neighborhood. Not too much longer, and he'll be able to go for longer rides in the beast. Glad you had a good day. With everything going on for you, a day off was richly deserved!

I started taking all the plastics off and got to where the noise appears to be centralized in the top end. have not gotten it apart for further research.

Mrs C is somewhat of a lefty health nut, sometimes irritatingly so. I was taken aback when she said she felt like having a greasy cheeseburger. I wasn’t sure I could get her in the sidecar fast enough.

Our old favorite greasy burger joint is in Huntley, IL, now quite a hike. We opted for an old timey drive-in in Hinckley, IL, which is about 15 miles closer with no stoplights. It was worth it.

Have you thought about putting SLIME or something similar in the tubes? It would have sealed up around that piece of cotter pin or whatever. I put it in my tires as an extra margin of safety, and since I have to move the bikes around in the garage all the time, I get plenty of time to inspect the tires. Just a thought.

Okay, four years ago today Arpok came home. I think it’s been one of my better purchases. Certainly been interesting.

Scored 2nd in the Stock MC Class at the Elburn Lions Club Car Show.

Jack the Ribber was trying to claim my plaque just because he stood(sat)guard all day.

Nah. If I feed him, he talks to me. I already have Mrs. C for that.
